Work Hours: 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for purchasing goods and services necessary for our business. They will make high-quality, cost-effective purchasing decisions with the goal of increasing profits.
Job Duties:
- Develop profitable purchasing strategies.
- Utilize effective negotiation tactics by building strong relationships with vendors and understanding their strengths and weaknesses.
- Evaluate market conditions and suppliers to determine best purchasing decisions.
- Expedite shipments as necessary.
- Ensure suppliers of parts, materials and services are appropriately qualified.
- Collect field and shop supply orders.
- Utilize buy lists to develop Request for Quote and submit to vendor.
- Organize and evaluate vendor quote to determine the best value.
- Prepare and submit purchase orders and related specifications, including delivery requirements, to vendor and all appropriate internal parties.
- Learn and maintain purchasing and inventory management software.

- High School diploma
- Strong attention to details and proven organizational skills
- Knowledge of market research, data analysis and purchasing procedures/practices
- Negotiation skills
- Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word
- Ability to quickly learn new software
- Ability to work well with people at all levels
- Ability to read and understand blueprints & fabrication drawings for tanks and/or structural steel
- Knowledge of steel materials and shapes
- Knowledge of welding consumables and supplies
- Experience with Tekla PowerFab
- Proven experience as a purchasing agent or relevant role
