Pittsylvania County has a great opportunity for someone to earn some extra cash working as a Convenience Center Attendant at the Climax disposal location.
POSITION TITLE: CONVENIENCE CENTER ATTENDANT
FLSA: NON-EXEMPT
REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT SOLID WASTE MANAGER
SUMMARY OF POSITION: The position involves operation of hydraulic trash compactor equipment and maintenance of assigned trash disposal facility.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. - Responsible for operating a hydraulic trash compactor;
- Monitors and maintains the site, including cleaning up debris on the pads, paper around fence, also around the machine and recycling operations;
- Assist County citizens on the proper use of facility and disposal of items;
- Reports equipment repairs and service needs to supervisor, including oil leaks;
- Reports misuse of site, vandalism, and all other wrongful acts to supervisor;
- Calls the Landfill Sunday through Thursday night to report a status of how full the open top boxes are at assigned site(s);
- Opens the gate to site at 6:00 am (if the first person scheduled), and closes the gate to the site at 8:00 pm (if the last person scheduled);
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent. Short-term on the job training is provided.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL: Must be able to interpret, write, and follow written and verbal directions. Capable of working with minimum supervision. Understands warning labels, signs and symbols. Ability to operate and control equipment or systems. Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is done primarily outdoors. Must be able to work in all weather conditions. Ability to perform physical labor, exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects. Capable of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and feeling.
