Chiller Technician

Columbus, GA Full Time
POSTED ON 5/17/2024

As an Chiller Technician, your role likely involves a high level of expertise and responsibility in maintaining, repairing, and optimizing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, particularly focusing on chillers. Here's a breakdown of what your job might entail:

  • Chiller Maintenance: You would be responsible for maintaining and servicing chiller systems, which are crucial for large-scale air conditioning in commercial and industrial buildings. This includes routine inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and calibration of components to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: When chiller systems or other HVAC equipment malfunction, you would diagnose the issue using your knowledge of refrigeration principles, electrical systems, and mechanical components. This might involve using diagnostic tools, performing tests, and analyzing data to pinpoint the problem.
  • Repairs: As issues are identified, you would perform repairs or replacements of faulty components, such as compressors, condensers, evaporators, valves, and controls. This requires hands-on skills and the ability to work safely with complex machinery.
  • System Optimization: You may be involved in optimizing chiller systems for maximum efficiency and performance. This could include adjusting settings, upgrading components, or recommending system enhancements to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Emergency Response: In situations where HVAC systems fail unexpectedly, especially in critical environments like hospitals or data centers, you would be on call to provide emergency repair services. This requires quick response times and the ability to work under pressure to restore functionality.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment condition is essential for tracking system performance and compliance with regulations. You would likely be responsible for documenting your work and providing reports to supervisors or clients.
  • Training and Supervision: As a senior technician, you might also be involved in training and supervising junior technicians, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them develop their skills in HVAC maintenance and repair.

Overall, your role as an Chiller Technician requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and a strong commitment to ensuring the reliable operation of critical HVAC systems.
