Position Description
Certified nursing assistant (CNA) responsible for administering daily medication to residents in accordance with accepted standards of practice, state and federal regulations and licensing requirements. Duties include monitoring residents, reporting changes, and collecting and recording medication administration.
Principal Responsibilities
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments as defined by state regulations in accordance with approved techniques and notes time and amount on resident’s chart.
- Deliver routine daily medications as prescribe by physician to residents; pass resident medications in accordance with physician orders and as stated on the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
- Verifies identity of resident receiving medication and records name of drug, dosage, and time of administration on specified forms and records; Documents reasons prescribed drugs are not administered and reports to nursing supervisor.
- Presents medication to residents and observes ingestion or other application, or administers medication, using specified procedures
- Document completion of tasks delivered on a daily basis; Document any observed change of condition in accordance with local rules and regulations.
- Communicate between Med Techs/Med Aides about resident needs for consistent quality services.
- Participate in meal service including serving, clearing, and cleaning the dining room; Assures that residents are positioned appropriately for meals; Assures that appropriate utensils are within reach of residents; Serves food trays and assists with feeding as indicated; Delivers and documents all a.m., p.m., and bedtime snacks and supplements; Provides hydration to all residents according to center policy.
- Responsible for knowledge of proper procedures to provide personal care services to residents; provide requested personal care services to residents.
- Observes resident, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies Nurse Supervisor or Physician of resident’s condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
- Records and restocks medication inventories.
- Prepares equipment and aids nurses during treatments and examination of residents.
- Checks residents in section regularly; Answers call light promptly; Follows through with resident problems or needs by delivering care or reporting to supervisor depending upon level of ability and nature of resident need.
- Provides residents’ personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, back rubs, shampoos, and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom; helping with showers and baths.
- Provides resident comfort by utilizing resources and materials; transporting residents; answering resident’s call lights and request; reporting observation of the resident to nursing supervisor.
- Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or assigned at any time with or without notice.
Qualifications
- Certified in the state of practice, required.
- Successful completion of State Approved Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program; Name must appear on State Registry as Nurse Aide in good standing.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility preferred.
- Current BLS/CPR certification (All SNFs; ALFs as required by state).
