Planned Parenthood Great Plains (PPGP) seeks a full-time Armed Security Officer at our Health Center for this 21st century health care provider and advocacy organization dedicated to upholding the standard for providing high quality sexual and reproductive health care, providing education that promotes informed proud and authentic sexuality, and changing the culture through proactive advocacy to ensure equality in reproductive and sexual decision making.

 

The Security Officer works closely with the Health Center Manager on site to perform all necessary functions to ensure the safety of employees, patients, visitors and volunteers for Planned Parenthood Great Plains. The security officer follows safety procedures and protocols according to PPGP policies and adheres to implemented standards by the Security Department. Working under the direction of and reporting to the Security Manager and the Lead Security Officer offsite, the security officer is expected to correspond by phone and email and turn in reports of incidents and daily reports.

  • None.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assists in maintaining a visible armed guard presence at the health center during business hours and while medical staff are present.
  • Ensures the presence of an armed security officer for emergencies after normal business hours.
  • Screens visitors to the health center with metal detector, conducts inspections on all bags and other items carried in by visitors into the building.
  • Foot patrol of the premises as needed. Vigilance of surrounding areas for presence of potential threat. Monitor closed circuit TV cameras.
  • Surveys the surrounding area for anti-choice protestors.
  • Notifies and documents all incidents, (violence, non-compliance and safety issues) daily.
  • Writes and maintains daily reports, forwarding reports to the Security Manager.
  • Opens all mail deemed suspicious by staff and in doing so follows proper mail-handling procedures.
  • Assists Security Manager in developing and maintaining a current emergency contingency plan.
  • Assists in the maintaining of security and safety procedures established by PPGP and in compliance with Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
  • Escorts discharged staff, trespassers, and other unwelcome parties off the premises.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Security Manager or Lead Security Officer.

  • Knowledge of local, state and federal laws enforcement and regulations.
  • Ability to think analytically, to question and to take initiative.
  • Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to learn the layout of the property and buildings.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in the performance of job assignments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Must commit to working irregular and long hours.
  • Proficient in use of word processing software and e-mail.
  • Knowledge of security surveillance equipment, two-way radios and a calculator.
  • Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Education and Experience
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Security guard training certification preferred.
  • Must be certified/licensed to carry a firearm in the associating State.
  • One to three years of experience in security related employment.
  • Experience in a health care setting preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or similar field preferred.
  • Must carry valid associating State Driver’s License.
  • Armed Security officer must provide their own equipment including firearm, bulletproof vest, duty belt, etc. 


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to patrol the property and access areas quickly.
  • Physically able to capture and detain individuals if necessary.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and monitoring surveillance equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 100 pounds at a time.

Salary - $17.54

Paid hourly

37.5 hour work week
