About Planned Parenthood Southeast:

In 1930, a Planned Parenthood affiliate was created in Alabama, the oldest in the Southeast. The Georgia affiliate of Planned Parenthood began in 1964. Services were added in Mississippi in 1989, and all three states joined forces in 2010 under the name Planned Parenthood Southeast (PPSE). 


Planned Parenthood Southeast (PPSE) provides quality, non-judgmental reproductive health care, education, and advocacy across its service area in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi, and strives to do so in a way that meets the needs and is representative of our communities. PPSE seeks to help individuals make informed decisions about their reproductive health, family planning options, and sexuality by providing people with accurate information and access to highly trained practitioners for preventive care. PPSE sees a world in which every child is wanted and cared for, every decision regarding sexuality is personal and informed, and everyone has access to affordable, quality care. 

With a passionate and compassionate staff of approximately 90; a dedicated and diverse team of volunteers; and an $11 million annual operating budget, PPSE operates seven clinics in its service area. In the most recent fiscal year PPSE saw approximately 14,000 patients for services including:  


Abortion (only in Georgia) Family planning services

Cancer screening and prevention-oriented medical services such as Pap tests and breast exams  

Pregnancy testing and counseling  

STI testing and treatment 


Position Overview: Planned Parenthood Southeast is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and creative Digital Director to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for advocacy, reproductive rights, and digital communications across new media. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications and Marketing, the Digital Director will be responsible for leading and shaping digital strategy, vision, and execution across the organization to advance our mission, engage supporters, and drive action across various online platforms.


Responsibilities: Manages communications, media relations, and digital strategies and programs.

Develops messaging and communications plans to support the organizations’ policy, political and issue advocacy objectives Develops and manages robust and consistent media relations strategy.

Pitches and coordinates media opportunities with local, regional and national media outlets.

Develops and distributes press releases, media advisories, and pitches to garner positive coverage of PPSE initiatives and services.

Develops and implements internal communication strategies to ensure alignment with organizational goals and values.

Manages the creation and dissemination of newsletters, emails, and other communication materials to staff and stakeholders.

Engages with external partners and stakeholders to amplify PPSE's mission and impact.

Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field preferred but not required.

3 of experience in communications, with a focus on media relations, internal and external communications, and donor outreach. 

Ability to travel as needed (mostly within affiliate states).

Knowledge of diverse groups, working within a multicultural workforce, and sensitivity and appreciation to cultural differences is required.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Demonstrated success in building and maintaining relationships with media outlets and stakeholders.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.

Experience in nonprofit or advocacy organizations preferred, with a commitment to reproductive rights and healthcare access.

Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to work outside normal business hours, including occasional weekends.


Spanish-speaking preferred but not required.

Ties to the Southeast states preferred but not required.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive digital strategies for advocacy, reproductive rights, and community engagement goals.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of digital communications, including website content, social media, email marketing, and online advertising campaigns.
  • Maintain the overall look and feel of online sites in alignment with affiliate style, national templates, and branding standards.
  • Create/Coordinate content production for various digital channels, including video, photography, voice talent, social media, web design, and graphic development.
  • Create links/content for events, calls to action, fundraising campaigns, and legislative issues.
  • Develop engaging and accessible communications for supporters through email lists and social media platforms.
  • Implement digital communications to increase visibility, grow audiences, engage in advocacy, and educate on Planned Parenthood’s services.
  • Monitor digital trends, analyze metrics, and evaluate digital campaign performance for optimization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate digital tactics into broader organizational initiatives.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, supporters, partners, influencers, and contacts to amplify digital presence and impact.
  • Stay informed about relevant policy developments, legislative issues, and public debates related to reproductive rights and healthcare access in the Southeast.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, digital media, design, or related field preferred.
  • Additional advanced graphic and/or digital certifications preferred but not required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in digital communications, digital advocacy, or related roles, with 2 years of management experience.
  • Strong understanding of digital platforms and tools, including content management systems, social media management (Facebook, X formerly Twitter, Instagram, Threads, and TikTok), email marketing, analytics, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, digital design tools, and video editing.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
  • Creative thinker with a keen eye for design and storytelling, capable of producing engaging multimedia content.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to think analytically and execute plans in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to Planned Parenthood's mission and values, including reproductive rights, healthcare equity, and social justice.
  • Knowledge of diverse groups, multicultural workforce sensitivity, and appreciation for cultural differences.
  • Ability to travel as needed (mostly within affiliate states).
  • Familiarity with the political and social landscape of the Southeastern United States.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, including occasional weekends.
  • Ties to the Southeast states preferred but not required.
