Job Description – Cost Accountant:
- Reports to the Controller
- Overall position description
The Cost Accounting is to support the site to improve the operating performance and reduce the risks, by having a complete understanding of the operation and customers, and providing solutions on complex financial aspects. The Cost Accountant is responsible for leading cost activities, such as; reviewing quotes vs. performance; analyzing the full customer P&L and key balance sheet accounts; identifying basic root causes of variances and solving them.
- Essential functions of the job:
- Guides cost analysis process by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures; providing trends and forecasts; explaining processes and techniques; recommending actions.
- Determines cost of operations by establishing standard costs, collecting operational data.
- Analyze purchase price variances and operational efficiency (scrap) performance and assist plant management to identify improvement targets.
- Identifies financial status by comparing and analyzing actual results with plans and forecasts.
- Reconciles transactions by comparing and correcting data.
- Increases productivity by developing automated accounting applications, coordinating information requirements.
- Cost Accounting-Planning, Studying and collecting data to determine costs of business activity such as raw material purchases, labor, and overhead costs
- Analyzing changes in raw materials and manufacturing methods to determine effects on cost
- Complete timely and accurate month-end cost accounting and inventory management close responsibilities. Prepare financial reports & analysis for profitability (COGS, product margins), standard costing variances, and inventory valuation.
- Complete and review inventory-related accruals and balance sheet reconciliations each month ensuring resolution of any issues identified
- Review, approve and process inventory adjustments and freight invoicing
- Support the financial planning process to develop and communicate manufacturing costs and inventory elements of the annual operating plan and periodic forecasts
- Support the development of and create visibility to financial expectations in the product development process. Partner with product management to set financial commitments in business cases and with the project team to achieve committed gross margins, capital and spending expectations and execute process to develop countermeasures if necessary.
- Monitor and support physical inventories of materials and fixed assets and communicate any inventory adjustments to management team
- Review of manufacturing bills of materials (BOMs) for accuracy and perform Actual vs Forecast analysis
- Work with the accounting and finance departments to implement and apply cost accounting policies and procedures
- Analyzing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs
- Making recommendations of new and proposed product costs
- Support the external CPA firm with year-end close, preparation of annual financial statements, and tax matters
- Provide recommendations on improving the efficiency of the company’s financial processes, including the month-end, quarterly, and annual close and reporting
- Perform miscellaneous administrative functions
- Maintain and update inventory records during and after inventory counts and throughout the year
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work uni

- Strong excel knowledge

- Strong financial statement experience

- Ability to stoop, bend, and kneel to file documents
