Job Title: Chief Engineer
Pay: $50,000 - $55,000; based on experience
Location: Crystal River, FL
Reports to: Chief Engineer
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary
Manages all engineering/maintenance operations, including maintaining the building, grounds and physical plant with particular attention towards safety, security and asset protection. Accountable for managing the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance and energy conservation. Responsible for maintaining regulatory requirements. Leads the emergency response team for all facility issues.
Supervisor Responsibilities
- Orders necessary materials and tools for repairing equipment and keeps within budgetary guidelines.
- Maintains an ongoing preventative maintenance program for the hotel.
- Responsible for administering and documenting equipment preventative maintenance and guest room preventative maintenance.
- Conducts training classes regarding safety, security, department procedures and service guidelines.
- Fulfills Manager on Duty shifts as needed.
- Ensures hotel is in compliance with all federal, state and local laws, including OSHA, EEOC, Wage Hour and Health laws.
- Ensures all fire and safety inspections are completed and any discrepancies are corrected.
- Manage and coordinate activities of engineering department to maintain all components of the resort under the direction of the General Manager.
- Plans sand supervises various Capital and Operational projects.
- Participates in the preparation of departmental and utility budgets under supervision of the General Manager.
- Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
- Provides direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.
- Adheres to and enforces all safety procedures including the use of PPE and SDS sheets for chemicals.
- Manages time & attendance and department scheduling.
- Creates and promotes a positive work environment and a cohesive team.
- Interviews possible candidates to determine if qualifications fit department needs and makes recommendations for hire
- Assist with training and coaching as needed
Job Responsibilities
- Supervises and assists engineering staff in the maintenance and repair of plumbing, hotel rooms, A/C and heating, ice machine, swimming pools, lighting, kitchen equipment, refrigeration, laundry, emergency generators, switch rooms, etc.
- Ensures all maintenance and repairs are completed on a timely, cost effective basis and according to specifications.
- Maintains an ongoing preventative maintenance program for the hotel.
- Responsible for administering and documenting equipment preventative maintenance and guest room preventative maintenance.
- Responds quickly to guest requests in a friendly manner. Follows up to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Provides a professional image at all times through appearance and dress.
- Follows company policies and procedures and is able to effectively communicate them to subordinates.
- Ensures preventative maintenance of kitchen equipment, mechanical equipment, and guest accommodations and document using management systems.
- Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
- Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develops recommendations accordingly.
- Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
- Informs all necessary departments of project status.
- Keeps adequate parts, materials, and supplies on hand or in stock while operating within operational budget.
- Responds to notifications from management concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilation equipment.
- Ensure inventory is up-to-date at all times
- Follows company policies and procedures.
- Other duties may be assigned as business demands.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Position requires flexibility in scheduling including AM/PM shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Engineering management experience of at least 3 years is required. Hospitality experience and leading a large team is a plus.
- Must have attention to detail, strong ability to multi-task, and time-management skills.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
- Knowledge of HVAC, Refrigeration, Electrical, Carpentry, Plumbing, and Heaters is preferred.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to develop and lead team to achieve high performance level.
- Ability to exercise judgment in evaluating situations and in making sound decisions.
- Must be innovative and familiar with the most positive attitude and high level of organization.
- High degree of professionalism and a professional presentation.
- Valid Drivers’ License required.
- Must be able to work independently or as a team.
Physical Requirements
- Be physically able to lift, reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs frequently.
- Be able to work in hot, wet, humid and loud environment for long periods of time.
- Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Must be able to complete repetitive motions throughout shift such as reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, etc.
- Exposure to various types of Florida weather conditions including: sunshine, heat, and rain.
