Plans and procures materials using MRP for production needs and to support all company requirements. Negotiates delivery dates, costs, quantity and lead times. Creates and maintains strong supplier relationships. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop positive relationships and effective communications with existing supplier base. Partnership oriented 
  • Manage supplier base using OTD and quality as two of the key performance metrics when evaluating supplier performance and determining who should be receiving new orders. Using this information, move in the direction of reducing the supplier base and giving the top performing suppliers more business
  • Work with and develop current suppliers to become top tier suppliers
  • Develop new suppliers into top tier suppliers, based on business needs. 
  • Works primarily with Machine Shops
  • Manages supplier workload based on Production schedule
  • Establishes economic order quantities based on history, current needs and Forecast
  • Negotiates best conditions: Price, Lead Time, Quality, shipping costs all being considered
  • Establish best order quantities based on demand and forecast
  • Works closely with suppliers on cost savings opportunity based on part dimensioning, surface finish and material type
  • Proactively manages vendors with regular follow-up on open orders, ensuring on-time delivery and quality of material
  • Updates open purchase orders in the company’s ERP/MRP system as needed to revise delivery dates, part revisions, or any other changes necessary to keep the information current
  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
None

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5-7 years of working directly with Machine Shops. Ability to interpret 2D drawings.
  • Associates degree from a two-year college or applicable experience. 
  • Being familiar with a CNC is a plus.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • 5 years using ERP/MRP and computer inventory systems.
  • Proficient with computer based programs such as Excel, Word, Access, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively interdepartmentally and externally with vendors and subcontractors in day to day decisions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The normal work environment is typical of a business office, manufacturing operation. 
  • The incumbent is routinely required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, touch, see, and hear, and may be required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • While performing the regular duties of the position, the incumbent may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The incumbent must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions.
