Platte River Academy, a K-8 Core Knowledge charter school in Highlands Ranch, is currently seeking a full-time Librarian Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.
Platte River Academy maintains high expectations for its students and staff. We are in search of a qualified Teacher Librarian who is passionate about supporting all learners’ academic growth in a caring and cooperative environment.
Responsibilities – Qualified teacher librarian will be asked to meet the following expectations:
- Create and maintain a school library that is inviting, safe, flexible, and conducive to learning for all users while nurturing curiosity and problem solving.
- Empower all members of the learning community to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, curators, and ethical users of information.
- Develop and implement weekly half-hour lessons focusing on reading enjoyment, inquiry learning, and information literacy for grades K through 6th, and on an as needed basis for 7th and 8th.
- Engage in collaborative planning with professional colleagues, based on a familiarity with the Core Knowledge Sequence of topics, in order to plan inquiry-based learning experiences.
- Curate a current and diverse collection of both print and digital resources aligning with the Core Knowledge Sequence and Colorado Academic Standards
- Support teachers’ incorporation of digital and print resources into classroom curriculum and to embed research skills into lessons and projects.
- Foster an interest in books and a love of reading through readers’ advisory, book talks, book clubs, and related activities.
- Promote and support programs used by teachers that encourage independent reading habits, cultivating a culture of literary exploration and lifelong learning.
- Perform collection maintenance by preparing new purchases for circulation, repairing damaged books, and weeding outdated and unused materials.
- Conduct a collection inventory every two years.
- Share expertise by providing professional development to staff as it relates to inquiry learning and information literacy.
- Integrate PRA’s available technology into learning activities for students.
- Be familiar with online library management systems and ebook platforms.
- Establish relationships with students, parents, and colleagues in support of all students’ growth and success while sharing library programming.
- Lead two book fairs annually as well as solicit additional funds for collection development from administration and private donations.
- Cooperate and network with other district libraries and public libraries to provide access to resources beyond the school library
- Actively participate in all aspects of the PRA community.
- Model and promote PRA’s core values: Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, and Compassion.
Experience and Knowledge
- A valid CO teaching license is required
- An endorsement and/or Master’s degree in Library or Information Science is preferred, or substantive course work in a related area
- K-8 educational experience
- Exceptional organizational skills for lesson planning and library management
- A willingness and commitment to work collaboratively with other educators
- Effective communication skills
- Professional demeanor
- A willingness to grow professionally and personally
- Experience in or knowledge of charter schools/Core Knowledge is a plus
Physical Demands
- Frequent lifting of five (5) to twenty (20) pounds
- Occasional lifting of twenty (20) to fifty (50) pounds
- Constant bending, squatting, standing, reaching, sitting, walking, kneeling, crawling, stooping, repetitive motions and overhead work.
Compensation & Benefits
- 186 - day work year per 2024-25 school calendar
- Annual At-will Employment Contract
- Salary Range: $45,000 - $75,000
- Pay for Performance Plan – Up to $2000 awarded
