About the Role

As a Senior Risk Data Scientist focusing on risk strategies post-payment processing, you will play a critical role in shaping Plooto’s risk landscape by developing and optimizing risk strategies for collection recoveries, card representment, and withdraw risk strategies. Your work will directly contribute to minimizing payment losses and optimizing recovery efforts. Partnering closely with your fellow Risk Data Scientists responsible for risk strategies pre-payment processing, you will ensure a seamless risk management framework across the payment lifecycle. Your will also play a pivotal role in building a reliable data source that serves as the source of truth for payment loss and recovery metrics, enabling informed decision-making and strategy development.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and implement risk strategies and solutions to mitigate fraud risk through statistical analysis, with a strong focus on optimizing end-to-end risk-based decisions, including recovery and collection to minimize payment losses and maximize recoveries.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of risk strategy continuously, adjust strategy and models as necessary.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance feature engineering and based on payment and customer behavior data.
  • Build and maintain a comprehensive data source that serves as the source of truth for all metrics related to payment loss and recoveries, ensuring data integrity and reliability.
  • Build and maintain dashboards and reports to communicate key insights and performance metrics to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with the pre-payment processing risk strategy team to ensure alignment and synergy between pre and post-payment risk management efforts.
  • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that can inform risk management strategies and decision-making processes.
  • Design and implement rigorous testing frameworks to evaluate the effectiveness of current strategies and identify areas for improvement.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of risk solutions and data pipelines.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging threats that could impact post-payment processing strategies and adjust approaches accordingly.
  • Communicate findings, strategies, and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders, providing actionable insights and strategic guidance.


Your Background
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, or a related.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in risk management, fraud strategy, data analysis, or a related field, with a focus on payment processing, including loss, recovery, reconciliations, or financial services.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and optimizing strategies related to financial risk management, particularly in post-payment processing.
  • Expertise in post-payment risk strategy management, including handling ACH/EFT resubmits, NACHA or Payments Canada regulations, and card representment.
  • Proficient in data analysis and statistical modeling tools and languages, such as SQL, and Python or similar.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze large datasets and derive actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of the payment processing ecosystem, including industry trends, regulatory environment, and emerging risks.
  • A strategic thinker with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement and innovation in risk management practices.
