Chief Estimator
POSITION SCOPE:
The Chief Estimator is responsible for managing and administering the department functions, including operating budgets, staffing, and final verifications of all conceptual and estimated projects. This requires an individual who has a high attention to detail and delivers estimates with great accuracy in short timelines.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review plans, specifications, and drawings to determine the cost of a project
- Provide knowledge and expertise in plumbing, mechanical piping, and sheet metal systems
- Develop clear and accurate scope documents for Design/Build projects
- Perform quality take-offs, analyses, estimates, and studies for all items incorporated in the assigned scope
- Produce an accurate estimate of labor, material, equipment, subcontractors, and general conditions
- Prepare proposal letter including the scope of work, inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications. Additionally, meet proposal due date schedules.
- Evaluate bids of subcontractors and vendors for completeness of scope of work, schedule, compliance with specifications, or other bid requirements
- Review drawings, specifications, and all other construction documents. Make Senior Management aware of the design-related problem, completeness of documents, and other potential risks
- Directly manage and supervise a team of estimators, including personal development reviews
- Ensure strict adherence to safety, quality, ethics, and compliance requirements at all times
- Work as a team with other estimators, project teams and other departments
- Anticipate requirements of producing estimates with little information given
- Develop and enhance vendor and sub-contractor relations
- Visit field locations as required to ascertain project conditions
- Attend pre-bid and bid strategy meetings as required
- Analyze special safety and code requirements on all projects
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5 years of Commercial Plumbing/Piping estimating or drafting
- Professional work experience that demonstrates proficient knowledge of plumbing, mechanical piping and sheet metal systems
- Strong understanding of mechanical construction, materials, systems, markets conditions, and trade practices
- Ability to develop conceptual plans and budgets
- Ability to adapt to Company estimating policies and procedures
- Excellent communication skills with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and general contractors
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc) and BlueBeam
- Ability to read and comprehend construction drawings and specifications
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have a Valid Driver's License with a clean record
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A valid Colorado Journeyman Plumbing License
