What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chief Engineer | Hyatt House Orlando / International Drive position at PM New Logo?

We’re looking for an experienced Chief Engineer who will look after this hotel as if it were your home. You'll make sure broken things get fixed, and more importantly, you'll proactively seek solutions and create a detailed program to ensure they don't break in the first place. This includes the interior as well as the exterior of the building. This person must be knowledgeable in HVAC, Refrigeration, and Electrical Engineering. The Chief Engineer may also be responsible for interviewing, training, staff development and scheduling.

HYATT House is an extended-stay, residential-style hotel that aims to provide individual travelers with the feel of a modern condominium. Our 175 room, all suite property offers the comforts of home such as fully equipped kitchens, flat panel HDTVs and daily complimentary breakfast, while the public space features facilities such as a pool, a fitness center, and a business center. What You’ll Do

  • Test, troubleshoot and perform basic repair on all types of equipment, plumbing (e.g., plunge toilets and unclog drains), electrical components including lamps, cosmetic items, extension cords, vacuum cleaners, internet devices, replace electrical switches and outlets, and other guestroom items.
  • Respond and attend to guest repair requests, communicate with guests/customers to resolve maintenance issues.
  • Perform all surface preparation, painting, minor drywall and wood trim repair, light bulb and A/C filter replacement and the complete and thorough clean-up of the painting or repair area.
  • Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines, carry equipment (e.g., tools, radio). Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves for equipment and all utility shut-offs for buildings. Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed.
  • Communicate each day's activities and problems that occur to the other shifts using approved communication programs and standards.
  • Organize and prioritize daily task to maximize efficiency, workflow, and guest satisfaction.
  • Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, anticipate and address guests' service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank guests with genuine appreciation.
  • Adhere to quality expectations and standards. Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report any maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries; complete safety training and certifications; and properly store flammable materials.
  • During inclement weather conditions, you will be required to treat outdoor surfaces, so guests and colleagues are safe.
  • Perform preventative maintenance assignments on a scheduled basis.
  • Communicate with hotel department heads to become aware of maintenance needs and ensure timely response to internal requests.
  • Roll up your sleeves and be prepared to involve yourself in the day-to-day operations, adjusting your schedule if needed to provide support to all three shifts.
  • Hold yourself and others accountable, leading by example. Set clear expectations and address issues directly.
  • Inspire and motivate your leaders and colleagues to foster a guest-focused and results-oriented environment.
  • Treat the colleague experience as you would our guest experience. Set your team up for success and understand how to pivot when plans and circumstances change.
  • Own the recruitment process for your team: interview, hire, and train. Provide feedback and open communication throughout the colleague experience.
  • Maintain a positive, supportive environment that drives colleague engagement every day.
  • Plan, organize, facilitate, and/or participate in various hotel meetings such as: operations meetings, department meetings, etc.
  • Create and promote learning opportunities and development plans for direct reports, fostering a culture of development.
  • Champion employee engagement and promote a collaborative and inclusive environment where all employees are encouraged to speak up and their input is valued.
  • Collaborate with other departments (front office, housekeeping, people & culture) to maximize performance and engage with companywide initiatives.

What You Bring to the Table

  • A minimum of 3 years of management or supervisory experience in a hotel and have experience with several areas such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, electronic systems and controls, carpentry and finish skills, kitchen equipment, energy conservation, and/or general building.  
  • Florida Certified Pool Operator (CPO) License
  • Ability to perform in a high-paced environment with multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Able to effectively respond to emergencies.
  • Ability to read and understand MEPs (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) blueprints.
  • Strong skill set in preventative maintenance, painting, and carpentry.
  • Ability to move up and down stairs, service ramps, and/or ladders, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance and heavier lifting or movement tasks with assistance. Must be able to twist pull and stoop. 
  • Professionalism, excellent communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use the tools of the trade - computers, databases, and property management systems, and be able to train your team to do the same, plus handling funds responsibility and reliably.
  • Comfortable with feedback. You know how to accept and give feedback upwards, downwards, and laterally in a professional way.
  • A love to inspire and motivate your team while focusing on learning and development, giving, and receiving feedback.
  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office.
