ABOUT POLAR FIELD SERVICES, INC.

We are a rare company. Since 1999, we've been taking our clients wherever they need to go, no matter how remote the location or challenging the conditions may be. We plan their expeditions, keep them safe in places that are anything but, and supply food, shelter, power, water, and waste removal. We then return the site to such a pristine condition no one would ever know we were there. We haven't been everywhere. Just a lot of places most people haven't.

Our team is made up of skilled people who are passionate about supporting cutting-edge science and making a difference in our world. As thanks for their courage and hard work, we offer excellent compensation and outstanding benefits. We take our jobs seriously, but our company culture is relaxed, dog-friendly, and casually dressed. We are looking to add more adventurous souls to our team!

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SCIENCE TECHNICIAN

As a Science Technician, you are crucial to our operations at Summit Station, Greenland. As the on-site representative for science activities, you are a go-to for the researchers, and you provide vital hands-on scientific research support. Your day begins with a meeting with the full station crew. You then walk to an outlying science facility where you check the instruments and clean off the frost. Using your science and engineering expertise, you maintain a diverse suite of instrumentation such as aerosol analyzers, meteorological sensors, radars, lidars, and more. Other daily tasks include releasing a radiosonde balloon, observing the weather, and addressing any outages.

Throughout the day, you communicate frequently with the researchers, and they place great trust in your ability to help them do their jobs. You also provide tours to visitors, acting as the face of our organization and clearly explaining technical information. A team player, you accomplish a variety of other tasks to ensure that the station is well-maintained. You also coordinate any shipments that take place.

Sometimes, your job is strenuous. You climb instrument towers, dig sample trenches, and travel to study sites, occasionally by snowmobile. Safety is always a priority for you, and you document all that you do. Along with keeping daily logs, you send weekly and end-of-season reports to the science project manager. You know that your 4.5 months will pass quickly and that you will train your replacement to do the seasonal job of a lifetime. Until that happens, you enjoy each day in the Arctic and thrill at the chance to be part of some amazing scientific advancements!
