About the Position :
Reporting to the Principal of Polk State Chain of Lakes Collegiate High School, this instructional position will teach introductory College Success (SLS) courses designed to encourage, support and enable students' success at Chain of Lakes Collegiate High School and coordinate all federal, state, and local testing, along with ACT and SAT testing.
This position is also responsible academic support services of students at Chain of Lakes Collegiate High School, primarily including student scheduling and advising and acts as a liaison to the student services department of the college.
The school counselor coordinates educational activities and communicates with local high school staff and students to ensure a comprehensive support program .

Essential Functions / Duties
Teach courses in accordance with published course descriptions, schedules, procedures and course outlines.
Work with the principa l and other faculty and staff as appropriate to assess and modify course and program goals, objectives , methods and content.
Conduct on-going evaluation of student progress and maintain records of student course / class performance.
Conduct class evaluations and complete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy.
Maintain a high level of expertise in the subjects taught.
Ensure all charter high schools are prepared for testing through organizing materials, training staff, and coordinating proctoring.
Be educated on and follow the rules in testing manuals and ensure that all proctors and staff are trained and aware of rules.
Work with Assistant Principal and Teacher Resource Specialist Trainer for Technolog y to help maintain integrity of all testing scenarios and materials and coordinate the overall testing program.
Maintain Regular Attendance
Utilize the Polk State & Polk County School Board master schedules for student scheduling and placement.
Conduct group instruction and counseling sessions relating to study skills, test anxiety, time management, goals setting, and other college success skills.
Consult with the Collegiate High School faculty on appropriate academic resources for use by Collegiate High School students.
Assist students in establishing realistic immediate and long-range goals and refine methods of continuous monitoring and adequate follow-up of student progress.
Monitor student graduation progress and eligibility for state scholarships & develop accountability measures to assure compliance.
Serve as a liaison to various college departments involved with Collegiate High School operations.
Assist in the external marketing of the High School and College and with student recruiting activities.
Attend district, state and national guidance in service and training workshops.
Conduct personal counseling session s when needed.
Serve as initial or as a primary contact for parent inquiries regarding student academic progress .
Provide academic advising for both high school and college course work.
Maintain proficiency in state dual enrollment course equivalencies.
Coordinate and administer national, state and local testing to include PERT, PSAT, FAST , BEST EOC's., etc.
Conduct workshops for parents pertaining to college admissions / acceptance, testing, scholarship and financial aid issues.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of effective communication and of effective instruction.
Understanding of federal, state, and local testing.
Knowledge of ACT and SAT testing.
Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of high school students.
Knowledge and understanding of principles of curriculum development.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing, and orally with a variety of audiences in a variety of settings.
Ability to make professional judgments within defined parameters of policy and professional standards.
Experience in high school and college scheduling preferred .
Experience in counseling at both the high school and college level preferred .
Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
Knowledge of the Florida education system and high school graduation requirements preferred.
Knowledge of college admissions process preferred .
Knowledge and experience in dual-enrollment and college scheduling preferred .
Hold or be eligible for State of Florida Certification in Guidance / School Counseling required

Required Education
A Master's degree in School Counseling from a regionally accredited college or university.
A Florida Department of Education Teaching Certification in a K-12 designation is required and School / Guidance Counseling is r equired .

At least two years of teaching or counseling / advising experience in a secondary school or college setting
