What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Safety Coordinator position at Polytek Development Corp?


Objectives/Scope:      
Be integral part of the EHS Department to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations as pertains to Kalamazoo, MI.  May also assist with Franklin, IN and S. St. Paul, MN operations.   
 
Essential Job Functions:
·        Knowledgeable on current and proposed relevant environmental, health and safety, and hazardous materials transport regulations, such as those promulgated by EPA, OSHA, DOT, IATA and IMDG; and ensure Galesburg site complies with all such regulations.
·        Observe, train and adheres to and communicates Corporate EHS Policies.
·        Ensures that all new employees properly understand the importance of safety in the workplace.
·        Participate in daily production meetings and monthly safety committee meetings.
·        Investigate incidents, injuries and potential safety risks in facility and implement recommendations for improvement.
·        Communicate and administer Workers’ Compensation injuries, claims and provide all necessary documentation for investigations, including post-accident and incident investigations to identify root cause and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
·        Establish Safety Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics and track accordingly.
·        Conducts routine general safety inspections of all building and property including fire extinguishers, safety shower/eyewash, CO2 detectors, AED and other related safety equipment. 
  • Accompany officials in audits from insurance company representatives, state, county, and local environmental and safety agencies.
·        Report to EHS Department on the performance of the QMS (e.g., results of quality audits, corrective actions), including the need for improvement.
·        Responsible for accuracy and timely inspection/calibration of monitoring and measuring devices (if applicable).
·        Other duties, as assigned.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
·        Regularly required to hear, speak, read and write in English.  Spanish helpful but not required.  
·        Frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
·        Requires the ability to occasionally lift supplies, up to 40 pounds
·        Occasionally ascend/descend short flights of stairs/ladders
·        Occasionally bending, squatting, walking, and standing for full shift
·        Overnight travel as necessary (~20%)

Required Education and Experience:
·        Bachelor’s Degree – Safety Management (preferred)
·        A minimum of 1-5 years of relevant experience.
·        Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels are essential.
·        Must have strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
·        Microsoft Office experience
·        Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
