The teacher works under the general supervision of the school level principal.


 


QUALIFICATIONS:


The teacher must:



    • Hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or appropriate career and technical licensure endorsement.

    • Meet minimum standards for licensure as set forth by the Mississippi Department of Education for the subject and/or grade level assigned.

    • Posess effective oral and written communication skills


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The teacher has the following duties and responsibilities:


 


Professionalism



    • Maintains professional work habits

    • Creates positive social and educational working relationships with others he/she comes in contact with day to day including patrons, students, administrators, and fellow teachers.

    • Is free of bias that could adversely affect relations with others he/she must work with day-to-day.

    • Accepts and performs his/her duty assignments in good spirit and can be depended upon to be in place and on time for such assignments.

    • Encourages students to set and maintain acceptable standards of classroom behavior to create an effective learning atmosphere in a well-disciplined/safe classroom.

    • Takes precautions necessary to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

    • Maintains accurate and complete records, as required by law, district policy and adminstrative regulation.

    • Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and board policies.

    • Attends and participates regularly in faculty meetings, parent conferences, district meetings, and interdisciplinary planning, as required.

    • Maintains documentation to receive licensure renewal.

    • Continues personal professional growth through an ongoing program of job-related knowledge and skill development to include attendance at workshops and conferences, memberships in professional organizations, reading professional literature, and exchange of ideas. 

    • Shows interest in the improvement of the quality of the school by contributing ideas and suggestions for improvements in procedures.

    • Conducts personal life in such a manner that outside influences do not adversely affect classroom performance.

    • Makes use of school district facilities in such manner as to protect the investment the public has made in the school progam.

    • Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, state, and federal law.

    • Shares responsibility during the school day for the supervision of ALL students.


 


General



    • Manages the instructional program in the classroom as designated by the curriculum with high quality professional standards.

    • Monitors class activity and adjusts activity as needed based on his/her observations of students' response to lesson, ability to question, evaluation of feedback statements from students, and feedback to students who are not on task.

    • Demonstrates competency in area of assigned instruction and/or grade level.

    • Develops lesson plans which incorporate varied instructional techniques, multimedia, and integration strategies as well as maximize time on task.

    • Presents instruction that is a rigorous match to meet the individual needs of students.

    • Identifies student needs, makes appropriate referrals, and develops strategies for individual education plans.

    • Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

    • Creates an environment for learning through functional and attentive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of student work. 

    • Assesses students related to the standards provided by MDE on a regular basis and communicates progress to parents.

    • Communicates regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.

    • Uses appropriate and varied assessment instruments pertinent to instruction to assess student progress and keeps appropriate records.

    • Uses relevant technology to support instruction.

    • Designs field trips and other community-based learning activities based upon the standards.

    • Works in coordination with other teachers in planning and integrating to enhance student learning.

    • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials to support instruction.

    • Plans and prescribes purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals, tutors, and volunteers as needed.

    • Develops, in accordanced with district and school guidelines, rules for classroom behavior, and appropriate discipline techniques that are fair and consistently applied.


Other



    • Performs other responsibilities as assigned.


EVALUATION:


 


The teacher will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.


 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:



    • Work agreement for 187 days

    • Minimum daily schedule 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

    • Holiday schedule concides with the Pontotoc County School District school calendar

    • Salary based on the Pontotoc County Salary Schedule for years of experience and licensure

    • Exempt employee
