What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Bus Drivers position at POOL?
JOB SUMMARY:
Transport students safely to and from school and assist students while entering and exiting the bus. Responsible for following an assigned route and schedule in the safe and efficient operation of a school bus while adhering to traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and the precautions necessary to avoid accidents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years of successful automobile driving experience with a good driving record.
- Previous school bus driving experience, preferred.
- Knowledge of the local street and road system of Caroline County, preferred
- Possession of or ability to obtain a Maryland Class B Commercial Driver’s License (air brake, passenger and school bus endorsements), or equivalent within the period of time specified by the pre-service training program.
- Ability to meet all pre-service training and pre-employment testing.
- Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Must be able to sit for an extended period of time in the bus driver’s seat, reach the steering wheel and pedals and wear the seat belt properly every day.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive children to and from the various schools on assigned routes in accordance with an established time schedule in a safe, proper, and courteous manner
- Adhere to CCPS policies and procedures in maintaining appropriate student behavior and discipline.
- Interact positively with, gain respect of, and maintain discipline over student passengers to ensure that behavior is controlled and not distractive to safe driving
- Administer first aid as required, and contact appropriate administrators in case of serious injury or illness.
- Transport, supervise, and assist children with special learning needs and physical handicaps.
- Complete pre- and post-trip bus inspections and sweep, clean and refuel bus daily.
- Maintain a clean bus in good mechanical condition and report any mechanical defects or malfunctions.
- Complete records and reports relating to bus operations in a timely manner; compile and submit accident report information and report prolonged traffic delays.
- Plan, organize and implement vehicle evacuation drills.
- Respond to public contacts concerning transportation problems and concerns in a polite and courteous manner.
- Attend all in-service and safety training meetings as required.
- Have excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation.
