The Marine Security Team is responsible for maintaining the security of Terminals 4 and 6. They assist with ensuring compliance with the Maritime Transportation Security Act and other regulations. Our Officers monitor and report incidents to safeguard commercial and industrial property against terrorism, fire, theft, vandalism, unauthorized entry and unsafe conditions.
This is a union represented position, classified as regular unassigned. Hours and shifts vary and a 40-hour work week cannot be guaranteed. Must be available for all shifts and on short notice 24/7 x 365.
* This position is FLSA non-exempt, therefore it is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of a 40-hour workweek.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

- Conduct routine security patrols at assigned terminal locations and positions. Act as access control officer for vehicles and pedestrians entering the terminal.
- Maintain alert watch for unlawful activities and pilferage, fire potential, hazardous cargo leaks and any other unsafe and/or dangerous conditions.
- Respond to fire alarms, oil spills and other environmental incidents, vehicle/equipment collisions and medical emergencies.
- Monitor radio transmissions and maintain radio communication with other security personnel at all times during duty shift.
- Assist with vessel and barge activity including pre and post arrival dock inspections, berthing, and vessel to shore communications.
- Record and document all vessel and barge related activity including arrival and departure times, berthing instructions, unusual incidents, pollution and berth damage.
- Enforce regulations and procedures as directed.
- Control movement of vehicles and personnel on Port property.
- Open and secure terminals and control work lights depending on work activity.
- Investigate, document, and file reports of accidents and incidents occurring on Port property.
- Prepare and submit daily activity logs.
- Answer incoming telephone calls and provide appropriate guidance to Port customers and visitors.
- Safely operate and use Port furnished vehicles and equipment to perform all assigned duties.
- Fuel, check fluid levels and inspect vehicles and equipment at beginning and end of shift. Report any damaged or defective equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent education is required.
- College level course work at an accredited institution in criminal justice, social science or related field is preferred.
- Minimum of one year experience in security operations, primarily in military, law enforcement or private security settings.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications including XP Outlook, Word and Excel.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid driver's license at time of hire is required.
- Must be able to pass criminal history records check for purposes of obtaining and maintaining eligibility for unescorted access to secure areas of Port facilities.
- Must obtain Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) – Private Security Unit Certification within 90 days of employment.
- The successful candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain a federal Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
- Pass and maintain certification in First Aid, CPR and AED.
