Job Description

The Gift Shop Ecommerce Associate serves both shop customers in person and online. This role assists shop customers with merchandise information and purchases and ensures that the Museum’s online store is visually appealing, easy to navigate and furnished with accurate and up-to-date content. This role is occasional status and typically 4 days per week, Monday and Wednesday through Friday.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Secure photographs for online store website.
  • Light photo editing
  • Take “beauty shots” of products enlisting help from Marketing if shot is complex
  • Locates information on products and writes descriptions for online store using inclusive language, consistency of tone and vigilance in regards to cultural appropriation
  • Oversees and posts content to the online store. Ensures it is visually appealing, easy to navigate, accessible, accurate and up-to-date
  • Coordinates with the inventory manager to ensure accurate inventory to prevent overselling
  • Weigh and measure items for online description as well as backend freight calculations
  • Drive traffic to the site via in-store signage, weekly Enews feature, and social media through the Marketing department. As well as targeted customer engagement, such as reaching out to past customers when a new shipment arrives of a product that they have purchased in the past
  • Monitoring website for technical problems and promptly refer them to the appropriate party for resolution
  • Learn from our data and implement new ideas for continuous improvement and more sales
  • Work with and meet deadlines
  • Work both independently and collaboratively
  • Prompt and friendly response to customer service inquiries via museum store email
  • Pull merchandise for fulfillment of online orders
  • Communicate with customers and with buyers if there are product issues
  • May occasionally work as a sales associate in the Museum Store
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Strong grammar and writing skills
  • Previous experience working with online sales platforms
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and performing duties effectively under time constraints
  • Skilled in multitasking and organization
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Interact with customers in a proactive and welcoming manner, provide excellent customer service to all Museum constituents to promote sales
  • Working knowledge of equity, inclusion and access to uphold inclusive sales and online content
  • Visual display experience is a plus
  • Flexibility to pivot to address evolving priorities


Education, Formal & Informal Experience, Training Required, Certification, Etc.

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years retail sales experience or customer services. Boutique or specialty store experience is a plus
  • 1 year online sales experience is highly preferred
  • Interest in art history is a plus, but ask for retail experience in conjunction


Job Conditions

  • Non-exempt/Occasional Status
  • Schedule/Hours: Monday, Wednesday through Friday, 11:00am -3:00pm (Flexible with schedule during the month of December. May include a weekend shift or a couple of evening shifts)
  • Adhere to the Museum Gift Shop dress code of business casual attire
  • Onsite/Not Remote
  • Computer work (point of sale)
  • Works directly with the public


Physical Activities

  • Frequently standing, walking, bending, grasping, handling, and reaching for objects
  • Frequently use of fingers and repetitive motions of the hands/wrist
  • Frequently communicating with other team members and visitors
  • Occasionally lift/push/pull up to 15lbs
  • This is not a complete representation of all physical requirements

Benefits

  • This role is non-exempt/hourly and occasional status
  • Budgeted compensation is within pay grade C ($15.67 min - $18.03 mid - $20.37 max), depending on experience
  • Shift differentials, for hourly/non-exempt staff, for hours worked onsite within:
    • Evening hours (6:00 pm-12:00 am) will be paid an additional $1.00 per hour
    • Night hours (12:01 am-6:00 am) will be paid an additional $2.00 per hour
    • Shift differential only applies to onsite work
  • Accrued sick time
  • Transportation benefits: TriMet / C-Tran / parking pass discount or bike to work enrollment
  • Museum admission & lectures, programs, and gift shop discounts
