What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESOL Teacher (Part Time .20 FTE ) Ocean Avenue School, One year only position at Portland Public Schools?
Ocean Avenue is seeking an energetic, creative, and master teacher of Multilingual Learners (MLs) for the 2024-2025 school year. This is a .20 FTE, one year only position.
In Portland, ESOL teachers:
1) Provide and support rigorous and appropriate instruction aligned with the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards and the Common Core to meet grade level expectations for MLs including newcomers;
2) Collaborate and consult with general education teachers to enhance acquisition of English in all language domains necessary to participate and make progress in general education content classes;
3) Provide on-going staff development as necessary on language acquisition and acculturation, sheltered instruction, and effective practices in teaching MLs; 4) Use school and student level data to inform instruction and programming supports for MLs.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with the cultures and languages of our students and families;
- Excellent interpersonal skills in order to collaborate effectively with all general education teachers and other educational support staff;
- The ability to provide ongoing staff development and leadership as a specialist of language development;
- Expertise in building relationships with multilingual families.
