Energy Storage Systems (ESS) Superintendent
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The ESS Superintendent position will manage and execute battery based solar system installations, including project planning, scheduling, developing field operation processes, overseeing site safety, reviewing productivity, quality of work, and managing personnel. The Superintendent will coordinate the use of resources from other departments, e.g. Design, Production, and Service. The Superintendent reports directly to the ESS Business Unit Manager and works in conjunction with Project Management. This role requires some travel and potentially working in incremental weather conditions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Hire, train, supervise, and develop the ESS install teams and warehouse support system
- Develop continuous improvement procedures to establish and improve operational efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of work
- Work with and develop subcontractors for installation work
- Ensure all aspects of the installation are completed safely, thoroughly, and with the highest quality
- Mentor and train team members to create and foster a culture of quality and safety
- Maintain a positive relationship with all stakeholders involved in projects, including customers
- Communicate customers’ requirements and expectations to field personnel
Pre-Construction Planning
- Participate in the job review with Project Management and Design, including reviewing plans and project specifications to determine deficiencies and resolve issues
- Prepare, manage, and update the project schedule, tasks, and equipment needed
- Provide technical expertise and advice on each projects
- Work to meet project estimates and budget goals
- Understand the scope of the contracts for contractors and suppliers
- Schedule and procure tools and equipment necessary for the project
Post-Construction Review
- Review gross margin reports and identify opportunities for improvement
- Provide feedback to Sales, Design, and Project Management to improve all phases of projects
- Establish and maintain checklists and close-out processes and procedures with Project Management
Safety
- Ensure safety requirements are understood and implemented by all project personnel including trade contractors
- Continually strive for zero Injuries on all projects through mindfulness, proactive observations, and near miss reporting
- Lead on-site safety meetings and regular monthly safety meetings
- Review the trade contractor’s safety program
- Observe, correct, and report all safety hazards and incidents on the job site.
Requirements
- Electrical Journeyman’s License EE98J (or get one within 3 months of hire date)
- College degree or equivalent work experience
- 8 to 10 years related experience (Commercial and or residential construction experience preferred)
- Familiar with construction management tools, Excel spreadsheets, and cost control
- Proficient in understanding building plans and specifications
- Collaborative team player
- Knowledge of safety standards and enforcement (OSHA 30 certification preferred)
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and effective under pressure
- Self-starter with ability to set goals and tasks
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to pass a background and MVR check
- Reliable transportation
