2024 Summer Program Assistant Instructor (2 weeks)

2024 Assistant Instructors: Architects & Builders and Sweet Tooth Academy

Poughkeepsie Day School has two openings for assistant program instructors to help lead one-week summer programs in July and August. PDS values an inquiry-based, constructivist approach to instruction; responsiveness to student exploration; and the role of the teacher/counselor as a guide to student learning.

Candidates are invited to assist the following one-week programs:

ARCHITECTS AND BUILDERS, for ages 4-10 (July 8 - 12)
"Calling all aspiring architects and builders to ignite their creativity, design innovative structures, learn about construction, and bring their architectural visions to life!"

SWEET TOOTH ACADEMY, for ages 4-12 (July 15 - 19)
Join the culinary fun where young chefs will master the art of creating mouthwatering sweet treats, experiment with flavors, and have their creations judged by a trained chef!

Potential opening: SAVORY CHEF ACADEMY, for ages 4-8 (July 29 - August 2)
We invite young culinary enthusiasts to discover the art of savory cooking, learn how to care for a kitchen, and learn basic cooking skills!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assisting the lead instructor with lesson plans and programs.
• Set up each day before camp begins as well as clean up once campers have left.
• Present for and assisting in sign in and sign out each day.
• The wellbeing and safety of each camper.
• Arriving on time each day.

Qualifications:

• Must have previous childcare experience.
• Works well in a team environment.
• Enthusiasm and excitement towards working with children and can assist in the imaginative play the program entails.

Camp runs from 9am - 4 pm. Instructors are expected to arrive by 8:30am for set up and the day ends at 4:30pm after all campers have been picked up and the program area is clean and set for the next day.
