Job Summary: The primary duties and responsibilities of this position are to perform inspections on customers generators, requiring the technician to drive to the site, interact with the customer in a professional and courteous manner, and fill out inspection paperwork indicating the performance of the generator.
Job Responsibilities:
- Basic maintenance and troubleshooting of generator systems, including but not limited to performing engine oil and coolant services, servicing and priming fuel system.
- Battery service, 12vdc and 24vdc troubleshooting, evaluate engine performance and make proper repairs.
- Advanced understanding of various generator components and their functions, including current transformers, relays, engine control modules, exhaust control technologies, voltage regulation
- Experience with redundant power distribution systems, including automatic transfer switches and their components
- Fuel, operate and maintain generators and associated equipment in a safe manner. Perform load bank testing, complete visual inspections.
- Lead or assist in the installation of rental generators at various sites, including telecommunication facilities, existing structures, and construction trailers, for example.
- Basic service and maintenance of company vehicle is required, including daily completion and submittal of vehicle condition reports.
- Complete all required reports and paperwork in a legible manner.
- All technicians will be required to work some irregular hours, weekends and holidays. Participation in an after-hours on-call pager rotation is required.
- Occasional out of town travel with overnight stay is required.
- Communicate daily with remote management to provide accurate information.
- Communicate as necessary with remote nationwide support personnel.
Competencies:
- Self-starting, customer-service driven-technicians with a proven background of following established procedures as well as engaging in complex problem-solving to provide solutions to generator issues in the field.
- Thorough understanding of mechanical and electrical theory and application.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers of varying levels of technical expertise to clearly explain issues, and solutions in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at all levels within the company as well as with equipment manufacturers and other vendors.
- They have the ability and desire to mentor other service technicians by sharing their knowledge and experience.
- They are organized and focused, managing their time well and not letting anything fall through the cracks.
Requirements:
- A minimum of ten years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling engines for all fuel, engine, and manufacturer types on machines ranging from 5kw to 2000kw (for Level 3).
- A proven track record of maintaining, troubleshooting, diagnosing, testing, and repairing all various types and manufacturers of automatic transfer switches, paralleling systems, distribution, and utility gear (Level 2 and 3).
- Education or experience in thermal dynamics and pressures as they relate to cooling and heating systems (Level 2 and 3).
- Expertise in reading and interpreting engineered drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Assess and report urgency of all needed repairs as well as accurately identifying any and all defective parts to be ordered including part numbers, serial numbers and photos (Level 2 and 3).
- Able to provide on-site representation for the company on required bid invitation walks, site surveys or customer meetings.
