Summary:
Perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools and products for testing engines, drive train components, vehicles, hydraulic systems and other mechanical equipment. There are also many ties to the motor sports industry.
70% Support engineering efforts
- Address safety and quality concerns quickly and effectively
- Complete mechanical design/documentation
- Support production, purchasing, and service team members
- Solve problems as needed to meet team goals
- Review and provide feedback on the work of others on the team.
20% Improve the team and create a culture of quality and improvement.
- Develop and maintain mechanical engineering standards
- Identify and document standard work
10% Customer Support including on-site visits
Essential Functions:
- Design of mechanical/electrical components and systems that utilize in house and out sourced machining, fabrication, and assembly resources.
- Acquire quotes for components, systems, and outside services and integrate into design.
- Drive towards a design that aligns with customer and internal requirements including budgetary considerations.
- Communicate technical details, ideas, and concepts to engineers and non-engineers in multiple locations.
- Coordinate with Technical Writing and CAD/Drafting department to produce accurate and clear communication of design, function, and safety requirements.
- Provide technical support and guidance to team members and customers.
- Utilize engineering skillset combined with the broader skillset of the PTI engineering team to solve complex engineering problems.
- Create process documentation and tools to increase efficiency.
- Promote Lean Enterprise and support overall Power Test Lean objectives.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- Technical degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 3D Design Experience (Ideally on SolidWorks)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated problem solving capabilities (including design analysis tools (such as FEA)
- Strong math and computer skills
- Manufacturing Process knowledge
- Able to learn and use internal business systems
- Exemplary organizational skills with an attention to detail
Preferred Skills:
- 5 years of designing or servicing dynamometer systems with an emphasis on control systems.
- Experience in drawing and document version control
- Experience in SolidWorks/Electrical/ePDM
- Extensive knowledge of engine and vehicle testing requirements and practices
