Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced HSE Specialist to oversee and enhance the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs at our client’s Grand Rapids plant. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager and receiving functional guidance from the Coating Solutions Regional HSE Teams, you’ll be instrumental in improving HSE performance, ensuring compliance, and fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities:
Site Safety and Environmental Leadership – 30%
- Drive initiatives to eliminate injuries, exposures, spills, and emissions.
- Consult with corporate HSE groups for site-specific regulatory guidance.
- Identify and address HSE risks, developing programs and procedures to mitigate them.
- Lead and participate in incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Facilitate Behavior Based Safety and Task Hazard Analysis programs.
- Develop and deliver all HSE training programs.
- Serve as a key liaison between the Business Unit, client, and site HSE network.
Management Systems – 25%
- Act as ISO 45001 Coordinator and Emergency Response Coordinator.
- Oversee occupational health and industrial hygiene control systems.
- Contribute to HSE audits and safety reporting.
- Maintain the plant’s SDS electronic database and support project executions.
Regulatory Compliance Activities – 20%
- Ensure adherence to HSE requirements and effective management systems.
- Handle chemical inventory, emissions metrics, and regulatory reporting.
- Maintain safety and environmental records, interacting with government agencies.
- Coordinate industrial hygiene activities and PPE assessments.
Waste Management – 20%
- Manage environmental documentation and waste disposal processes.
- Coordinate hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling.
- Participate in the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program.
Other Activities – 5%
- Engage in community outreach and Corporate Social Responsibility programs.
- Oversee inventory and procurement of safety supplies.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering, Chemistry, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Working knowledge of HSE regulations, including Occupational Safety & Health, Process Safety Management, Environmental Regulations (particularly RCRA), and Emergency Response.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, communicate effectively, and prioritize tasks.
