Summary:

Powin is seeking a skilled Technical Illustrator/Writer to provide essential support to both internal and external stakeholders. The primary responsibility of the Technical Illustrator/Writer is to create high-quality illustrations and provide technical writing support for Powin’s world-class technical documentation, which encompasses a wide range of materials, including: work instructions, product manuals, software documentation, and various other documents related to the installation and maintenance of Powin’s utility-scale modular battery systems. The Technical Illustrator/Writer will depict and author critical and high-risk tasks that require strict adherence to safety standards, such as those involving fire, crush, electrical hazards, and lockout/tagout procedures.

To succeed in this position, the candidate should have extensive experience collaborating with technical writers and other team members in the creation of technical documentation. Expertise will include creating both line drawings and 3D images using Composer (from SolidWorks), as well as editing photos with Photoshop, and developing logos, labels, etc. using Adobe Illustrator. The candidate should also have experience as a technical writer, authoring and revising documentation for intended audiences by distilling complex technical information from multiple sources into easily understood content. Clear and proactive communication will be essential, as you'll be gathering information from multiple sources, including other technical writers, engineers, technical product managers, and other relevant personnel.

The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and be able to produce visuals that effectively communicate safety precautions.

This position will be primarily focused on technical illustrating upon hiring, with a shift to both illustrating and writing as image content is developed and refined.

Job Details:

  • Proactively create, revise, and maintain images and documentation for the installation and maintenance of Powin’s utility-scale
    modular battery energy storage systems, to include installation & maintenance manuals, product manuals, software
    documentation and a variety of other technical documents.
  • Image types and tasks to include:
    • Line drawings with and without shading/hues
    • Exploded view drawings
    • Manipulation of photos
    • Creating labels for production/manufacturing
    • Other illustration support as assigned
  • Writing tasks to include:
    • Research databases, interview Subject Matter Experts, and attend meetings to gather required technical information
    • Author and revise various manual types in an XML-based authoring tool
    • Populate and maintain content management system/knowledge base.
  • Be innovative and stay apprised of technical illustration/writing industry trends, while proposing improvements to processes and tools based on those trends
  • Proactively identify and complete tasks based on needs of the organization while working under minimal supervision
  • Learn and execute tasks, to include administration of Powin’s content management system
  • Populate, maintain, and introduce improvements to Powin’s content management system/knowledge base
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a technical illustrator and writer in relevant disciplines
  • Excellent written, communications, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Experience creating images and documentation in support of manufacturing, installation and/or maintenance tasks
  • Experience with content management/knowledge base administration
  • Proficient with Composer
  • Proficient with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, SharePoint)
  • Experience with Jira/Confluence
  • Experience with topic-based authoring and image data basing for technical documentation
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work independently and manage the workload of multiple projects and tasks
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with creating animations and video editing a plus
  • Paligo experience a plus
