Summary:
Powin is looking for a Sales Director that will manage a portfolio of customers geographically located on the Westcoast for current and future opportunities. This is a critical role of nurturing relationships to produce dramatic growth for Powin’s backlog. The sale of Powin products and services is a long-term sale. We are looking for a highly organized individual with a strong baseline understanding of project finance in finance modeling, contributing to the customer’s goal and achieving a highly profitable project. This role will support the back-office team that provides procurement, contract and technical support, and quarterbacks the sales and has robust leadership and internal team-building skills. The Sales Director needs to keep abreast of energy market trends, energy storage and grid services economics, and startup cultures, which fuels them to secure successful bid responses and sales. Extremely high standard for work product and the customer experience overall and ensuring top-quality work reaches the customer.
Job Details:
- Responsible for co-developing the strategy and associated tactics for closing Powin sales, for assigned region
- Identify opportunities and applications for Powin products and services to include basic understanding of power electronics, electrical site design, and a directional sense of cost impactors
- Serve as the energy market expert in the assigned region
- Lead efforts to identify sales targets and secure sales for Powin energy storage solutions, meeting or exceeding sales volume goals set regularly by Powin management
- Identify and establish relationships with key customer decision makers
- Leverage existing relationships with key customer decision makers
- Develop and implement sector, sub-sector, and account strategies, based on a sophisticated understanding of customer needs, Powin’s value propositions, and competing solutions
- Understand at an advanced level and articulate in a clear and compelling manner complex energy challenges, energy modelling, and the business case for Powin storage solutions in a sales context
- Prepare sales materials including sales proposals, presentations, and responses to open procurement solicitations
- Responsible for working within Powin’s product suite, and pricing framework to achieve profitable sales objectives
- Collaborate effectively with sales analysts, engineering, production, business development, marketing, and legal teams to secure Powin sales in one of the most important North American energy storage markets
- Significant travel to engage customers and market influencers within the assigned territory
- Report regularly on regional customer and market activity, including detailed customer engagement efforts and market observations to contribute to Powin’s market knowledge and effective implementation of company, product, and sales strategies and
- Track changes in the energy storage policy landscape and contribute that knowledge to overall business development strategy
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (preferably engineering, energy or business disciplines), with a preference for candidates with a master’s or other graduate degree
- 5 years’ experience in consultative, value proposition-based sales
- Strong understanding of utility and energy markets, in which Powin competes
- Experience establishing multi-level senior, decision-making level contacts within utilities, IPP’s, channel partners, and/or key commercial/industrial markets
- Experience in utility procurement, IPP, or energy services companies is preferred
- Strong preference experience in energy storage
- Understanding of development, construction and project finance preferred
- Direct experience and knowledge of energy markets and related industries such as renewable generation, utilities, IPP’s, and commercial, industrial, institutional energy operations, applicable regulatory frameworks, channel partners (enabling effective networking) and Powin competitors
- Strong working knowledge and demonstrated proficiency in sales leadership and complex technology and capital equipment solution-based sales
- Strong understanding of success in business-to-business sales on corporate level and how to drive revenue and profitability while solving customer needs
- Excellent teamwork skills, communication, and professional diplomacy
- Self-directed, organized, and self-motivated to accomplish goals
- Understanding of proficiency with economics of capital equipment sales and large-scale energy projects
- Strong understanding of Westcoast energy markets at wholesale and retail levels
- Ability to work in independently in a growth company, with a market-driven, fast-paced, and ever-changing work environment
- Ability to think creatively and take initiative to overcome challenges in a highly competitive, fast-changing market and achieve ambitious sales goals
- Excellent relationship development skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
- Excellent organizational and planning skills; with the ability to prioritize sales targets
- Strong technology skills, including proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Work, PowerPoint, MS Project)
- Must be able to travel up to 50% for geographical region
