Job Summary:
The Senior Benefits Administrator (SBA) plays a vital role in enabling the PPLSI HR Team to deliver on our Vision/Mission Statements to all stakeholders by focusing on flawless delivery against the HR Strategic Plan with primary focus on Benefits, (both self-insured and fully insured), Retirement Plans, Wellness Programs, and Leave Management to maximize company attractiveness and retention of talent.
Under minimal supervision, the SBA is responsible for the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs and leave management ensuring that PPLSI is in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations and is the subject matter expert for areas of responsibility. The SBA will develop communication strategies to enhance employees’ understanding and utilization of PPLSI benefit and leave programs and strives to maximize return on investment.
The SBA works collaboratively with the VP, Human Resources to develop progressive and proactive benefits and leave management strategies aligned with and supportive of PPLSI’s business strategy, goals, objectives and culture and provides motivation, incentives and rewards for effective employee performance. The SBA will use strong analytical skills with attention to detail and follow through, strong teamwork and collaborative skills, and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with competing demands.
The SBA will utilize exceptional vendor management skills to seek out and utilize services provided by our broker partners and other benefit and leave vendors to ensure that services are maximized to their full potential.
Responsibilities:
Benefits Administration
Manages all aspects of day-to-day benefit functions including retirement plans, health, dental, vision, STD & LTD, Life, and other ancillary benefits
Manage vendor/TPA relationships to ensure contractual requirements are met and service offerings are utilized to their full extent
Perform regular benefits invoice reconciliations to ensure accuracy in monthly carrier billings
Represent PPLSI as the primary contact with key benefit vendors and brokers
Performs regular audits, including 401k, to ensure proper payroll deductions, compliant benefits programs, and benefit data integrity
Maintains/oversees compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations such as HIPAA, FMLA, COBRA, and ERISA
Evaluates the efficiency and value of current benefit programs and make recommendations for improvement
Partners with Workday Administrator to ensure accurate and compliant administration of employee benefits
Ensure compliance with applicable US government (federal and state) regulations and laws, as well as timeliness and accuracy of required reporting.
Employee/Stakeholder Communication
Partner with Benefits Broker to develop an annual employee communication calendar
Conduct Employee Benefits orientation, Open Enrollment group and individual sessions, and monitors and ensures completion of Employee enrollments
Utilizing Benefits Advocate, ensure high-quality and timely response and resolution is provided to routine employee inquiries
Handle escalated benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, and courteous resolution
Assist beneficiaries in navigation steps needed for facilitation of COBRA, Life Insurance, and retirement plan distributions
Leave Management
Manage relationship with LOA TPA to ensure contractual requirements are met and service offerings are utilized to their full extent
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations
Develop and implement processes and procedures for FMLA to ensure that all stakeholders are engaged and LOAs are managed efficiently
Monitor FMLA absences (including intermittent) and communicate statuses with employees and managers throughout the process and leave to ensure that all are informed
Partner with the Organizational Effective Specialist to ensure the FMLA policy is current and clearly outlines employee and manager responsibilities
Partner with the Organizational Effective Specialist to develop and deliver manager training on FMLA requirements and manager responsibilities
Wellness Program
Develop the Wellness Communication calendar to include communication focus pieces and events
Partner with BCBS on wellness initiatives to ensure the focus is targeted and value added
Lead the Wellness Committee and increase engagement of the members
Increase awareness of the Wellness Committee across the organization
Ensure that all facets of wellness are included, e.g. health, mental, financial, etc.
Education, Knowledge, and Experience Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management, Human Resources, or similar field preferred.
4-7 years managing benefits, experience with both fully insured and self-insured plans preferred
An ability to thrive in an environment where priorities change daily, and where employees wear many hats, detailed-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. The ability to think "outside the box" and prioritize tasks and decisions in a timely manner.
Self-directed, yet effective working part of a collaborative HR team and understands HR’s role.
Responsive and customer-focused with a demonstrated use of professional judgment.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak confidently to large audiences
CEBS certification preferred.
FLSA Status
