The Sanitation Worker is a member of our janitorial staff whose duties are to assist and support in the cleaning and sanitizing of areas and equipment in a food processing plant. It is necessary to meet food safety and quality standards of the company as well as any regulatory body. The Sanitation Worker will be working around processing equipment in which chemicals will be used to complete the sanitation process. This position will be required to work alongside production employees to ensure that drains, walls, piping and select plant equipment are cleaned and inspected on a regular basis.
This position will work 3rd shift overnight.
Responsibilities:
- Understand facility cleaning and safety procedures.
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures in accordance with Company, Local, State, and Federal OSHA rules and regulations.
- Be exposed to cleaning solvents and/or chemicals.
- Work in hot, cold, wet, dry, and noisy environments.
- Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) for a food plant and all applicable regulatory, customer, and company requirements (policies, procedures, regulations).
- Be able to routinely move various barrels/ totes of chemical to restock.
- Receive bulk loads of chemicals.
- Replenish appropriate custodial supplies as directed.
- Clean, disinfect and restock washrooms.
- Plant environmental cleaning to include drains, walls, piping and select plant equipment.
- Must be able to identify hazards and report as necessary.
- Additional duties may include emptying trash bins and cleaning trash area daily, and operating trash compactor when applicable. The Sanitation Worker may clean other areas of the facility that would include warehouse, offices, break rooms, restrooms, and test kitchens, along with any additional duties as required by the supervisor.
- Understand instructions, training materials, and product labeling.
Qualifications and experience:
- Janitorial experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
- Ability to communicate in English is required: however, bilingual skills may be preferred based on business necessity.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations and accurately record data.
- Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be organized and detail oriented.
- Must be able to work independently.
Physical Demand/working conditions:
- Must be able to frequently stand, walk, kneel, reach, climb, pull, push, and bend.
- Must be able to routinely lift and/ or move up to 50 pounds; and occasionally 75 pounds.
- Must be able to work for extended periods in a cold, damp environment.
