Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY - Plans, directs, supervises, and evaluates peri-operative services of main hospital surgical services department and Mallard Pointe Surgical Center. Responsible for aligning all surgery departments with organizational needs and objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES - Directs care delivery in areas of responsibility providing integration of services into the primary functions of the organization. Plans, organizes, facilitates, and monitors all peri-operative services operations and administrative processes. Participates in service line development, including inpatient and ambulatory surgery programs and services, to ensure regional positioning for surgical specialty growth. Develops relationships with surgeons and physician customers focusing on productivity of all stakeholders in system design. Responsible for recruitment, retention, training, ongoing competency, and performance management of surgical services staff. Defines responsibilities for reporting departments' employees; participates in physician recruitment activities where appropriate. Develops staffing plans that meet productivity indicators and assures adequate staff based on patient volumes and defined goals. Develops policies, procedures, and guidelines consistent with relevant standard(s) of care and regulatory requirements. Assures departments' facilities, physical environment and equipment are compliant with regulatory, accreditation and biomedical safety standards. Maintains department specific policies and procedures and plans for the provision of safe, quality patient care. Assures departments' participation in organizational, industry and regulatory performance improvement and infection control activities to include monitoring, evaluation and benchmark of outcomes, pertinent measures. Develops, monitors, and reviews the departments' operating and capital budgets and productivity indicators. Analyzes department specific data and initiates strategic and operational changes in response to trends as needed. Collaborates with Materials Management on surgical supply value analysis process, purchasing, inventory and surgical case cost management strategies according to organizational goals. Responsible for item master currency and monitors processes to maximize surgical charge capture for areas of responsibility. Utilizes and supports development of information technology solutions that improve operational performance. Must adhere to the Prairie Lakes Healthcare System Core Values. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
JOB SPECIFICATIONS - Graduate from an approved school of nursing - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required, Master's Degree preferred. Holds or is eligible for licensure as an RN in the State of South Dakota. Five (5) years of progressively responsible clinical experience. Mandatory Basic and Advanced Life Support Training per policy.
