Job Posting for Woodworking Teacher at Prairie Moon Waldorf School
Prairie Moon Waldorf School seeks a highly organized and responsible part-time woodworking teacher for two 90-minute classes per week for grades classes 4th-7th grade for the 2022-23 academic year. The successful candidate for this position will have developed a familiarity with the woodworking curriculum for grades fourth through eighth through two or more in-class observations during May of 2022 with the current instructor. Prairie Moon Waldorf School is located on approximately 7.5 acres of land in a rural setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and lead weekly age-appropriate one and one-half hour woodworking classes for grades 4 through 8.
Instruction should include educating the student about the properties of the wood, care and use of hand tools such as carving knives and techniques for shaping, smoothing and finishing surfaces.
Cooperate in organizing and maintaining tools and supplies necessary to the program
Work within the budget allocated for the program.
Submit year-end student reports
Attend meetings when assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Required:
Able to shadow current instructor during May 2022
Substantial work experience in woodworking
Substantial work experience with simple and more complex woodworking tools
Knowledge of classroom safety measures necessary for such work
Classroom management skills and experience
Excellent interpersonal skills with children and adults
Maintain a healthy working relationship with class teachers and school staff
Preferred:
Experience with (or willing to experience) teaching within a Waldorf class setting
Background in and/or knowledge of, anthroposophy, Waldorf pedagogy
