What are the responsibilities and job description for the Work-Study Assistant | AESS | SASC | Social Science Tutor position at Prairie View A&M University?
The Work-Study Assistant, under the general supervision of the Coordinator of Tutoring Services, will plan and facilitate tutoring sessions for students enrolled in Social Science subjects.
Responsibilities:
- Planning and facilitating tutoring sessions utilizing collaborative learning methodologies in one-on-one or group sessions that will help them be successful in classes that have a high demand
- Establishing and maintaining rapport with the assigned students.
- Assisting students in the development of appropriate study skills.
- Modeling appropriate academic attitudes and behaviors to staff, faculty, and students.
- Motivating and supporting student’s achievement/success
- Serving as a role model for students receiving services.
- Fostering an inclusive learning environment.
- Maintaining consistent communication with supervisory staff.
- Attending mandatory tutor training meetings.
- Performing other assigned duties as required.
Required Education and Experience:
- Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
- Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
- No prior experience necessary
- For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Proven track record of academic success in the following subjects: HIST 1301, HIST 1302, POSC 2305 and POSC 2306.
- A minimum grade of "B" in the subjects listed above.
- Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Good customer service skills
- Punctual, detail-oriented and able to multitask.
