The Clinical Nursing Educator is responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing educational programs for nursing and psych tech staff, ensuring that education is evidence based and all current regulatory requirements are incorporated.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Plans and coordinates all aspects of orientation including ensuring that competencies are assessed and documented during the orientation period and annually
- Revises and updates competencies as needed
- Oversees development of the preceptor and charge RN programs
- Coordinates with nursing school programs to provide opportunities for clinical rotations for students
- Responsible for orienting students and working collaboratively with nursing instructors to ensure that clinical practice goals are met in a safe and positive learning environment
- Maintains a regular presence on all units, acting as a role model and mentor to floor staff for exemplary nursing practice and patient care
- Provides individual on the spot coaching as needed. Passes observed deficiencies on to nursing managers and works collaboratively with them to develop individual performance improvement plans when necessary
- Is able to function as direct care staff
- Collaborates with nursing management team to ensure nursing care complies with Joint Commission standards, state, federal, local and organizational policies. Assists with developing, reviewing and revising policies.
- BSN required, and requires current licensure as an RN with the Minnesota State Board of Nursing
- At least 2 years of experience in an Inpatient Behavioral Health setting (child/adolescent preferred)
- Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, Joint Commission and other regulatory standards
- Good public speaking skills and ability to coordinate and execute engaging presentations to a variety of audiences
- Advanced critical thinking skills, problem-solving ability and the ability to communicate and make safe judgment calls in stressful situations
- Must be able to communicate in a professional manner in both verbal and written format
- Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint and Word.
- Ability to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks
