POSITION TITLE: PURCHASING CLERK
REPORTS TO: CONTROLLER
SUMMARY
This position is responsible to learn and understand the various items needed for the production of our products. The primary function is to monitor and maintain necessary quantities of supplies for continuous production. The purchaser will regularly check existing levels of standard use materials, gather requests for materials, generate and submit purchase orders for previously stated items within 24 hours, track delivery schedules, and keep the requestor advised of item status.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Place orders on a timely basis for purchases of materials and supplies.
Maintain product supplier and lead time schedules
Prepare complete and accurate purchase orders on Pratt’s ERP systems, including SAP
Accurately and timely receive materials from deliveries physically and in the ERP system
Update preexisting POs if necessary to reflect tax adjustments or other changes
Expedite delivery of goods to users
Maintain necessary inventory levels non paper materials
Be familiar with standard products used and research sources of supplies for highest quality, best value for money, best terms, etc. for presentation to management when\if needed.
Establish vendor files and inventory control records.
Schedule\expedite non manufactured item shipping, such as materials returns or material transfers to other locations
Maintain price records and handle discrepancies as they arise.
Inform management of upcoming price increases, improved product availability, and economical alternatives.
Assist General Manager (and/or Production Manager) with purchases as needed
Receive and direct delivery drivers to appropriate dock location and coordinate with shipping to get trucks unloaded as necessary.
Assist maintenance with parts inventory procedures as needed
Be able to use a pallet jack to unload trucks.
Assist with Month End inventory counts
Comply with company policies and procedures.
Additional duties as assigned by management.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED
Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following:
College degree
Two years’ purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience in the corrugated box industry
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, manuals, and contracts. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and employees of the company.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions.
REASONING ABILITY
Clear, concise oral and written communication skills
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software
Run meaningful and successful internet searches for consumables
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employee is regularly required to walk and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is often required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
