About the job:
The CNC Machinist reports to the Team Leader who is responsible for department management, manufacturing and inspection of machined parts. The machinists interpret dimensional features from customer drawings or prints, properly reading micrometers, calipers and other inspection gages to check production parts. The machinist will operate and maintain a limited number of CNC machine types in an industrial setting. The machinist will also utilize the Epicor ERP computer system to document and identify work activity on the computer. The machinist will be supervised over 50% of the time and has limited troubleshooting, decision-making and problem solving requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Safely operate and maintains preset CNC lathe and milling machines to produce precision machine parts to customers dimensional drawings and specifications.
2. Properly uses inspection measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, plug gages and various other QC gages) to determine dimensional accuracy of manufactured parts to customer’s drawings and specifications.
3. Performs limited preventive maintenance, on machines such as adding hydraulic oil, coolant, removing chips and completing daily maintenance sheets.
4. Perform maintenance and housekeeping for work area including cleaning floor, machine and maintaining a highly organized 5S work bench.
5. Perform CNC machine tool offsets, change tool inserts and tools to compensate for tool wear and maintain high quality dimensionally accurate production parts.
6. Capable of reading and understanding customer drawings for dimensions and tolerances.
7. Capable of reading and understanding tooling set-up sheets to assure proper cutting tool replacement when required to maintain production.
8. Ability to safely load, start, stop, change over various bar loader units utilized in lathe areas.
9. Complete Epicor data entry requirements for daily quantity produced, nonconformance and scrap. Properly print out identification tags for each category of parts entered into the system. Understand and execute requests for raw material through Epicor computer system. Complete all other daily paperwork such as manufacturing worksheets.
10. Knowledge of AS9100 Quality Management System Sections QAP 7.1.5, QAP 8.6, QAP 8.7.
11. Proper operation of the Crib master tool dispensing and storage system. Understanding of the procedure to dispense and return perishable and non perishable tooling and plug gages to their designated storage or collection locations.
12. Complete other tasks as assigned.
13. Must be able to produce consistent quality production parts running multiple machines.
14. Promote cooperative communication skills between coworkers and management.
Level I CNC Machinist requirements must complete Lessons 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 of the “Precision Measurement for Machinists” training DVD within the first 3 months. Also Haas Machine Control Simulator for offsetting within 6 months.
Experience, Skills and Abilities:
· Prior machining/manufacturing experience and/or CNC experience is strongly desired
· Solid math skills required, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide
· Ability to read blueprints, and use mics and other simple gages
· Must have strong work ethic and attention to detail
· Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills.
· Good interpersonal communication skills a must.
· Self-motivate
· Ability to multi-task.
Education & Knowledge:
· High School Diploma or GED required.
Equipment, Machines and Software Used:
Experience with computers, printers, Epicor ERP system, Crib Master tool vending system, telephones, hand tools and gages, grinders, CNC machines and calculators.
Mental and Physical Requirements:
Moderate mental and visual attention required to perform manual work, machine operations, calculator, and inspection gage use. Machine adjustments will require frequent decisions to detect and adjust for tool wear variance from originally set positions. An eye exam to assure visual acuity and color vision test is required. The exam must be administered by a medically qualified / trained person. The color vision test is only required on the first eye exam.
The work can be physically demanding. Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawling, reach, sit, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, use fingers, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions. Ability to exert, up to 25-50 pounds of force occasionally. Ability to exert 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
Work Environment:
Work is performed on a production floor, where the worker is subject to slight temperature changes, (cold/heat), noise, and proximity to moving mechanical parts. There is also exposure to oils and other lubricating fluids.
