GENERAL COUNSEL AND RISK MGMT

General Summary/Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney provides general legal support, direction and advice to all PHP entities under the supervision of the Director of Legal Services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to legal research and writing for senior attorneys within the General Counsel’s office; legal drafting and review of non-physician, transactional contracts; legal drafting and review of commercial/non-physician real property arrangements; legal drafting and review of transfer agreements between PHP entities and other healthcare organizations; general legal support for the Learning Institute with respect to educational affiliations and corresponding agreements; routine management and handling of subpoenas; general advice, review and direction regarding internal policies and procedures of PHP entities; compliance with the laws, rules and regulations of federal and state administrative agencies (including but not limited to CMS, ODH, OSHA, EPA, EEOC, OCRC, etc.); legal review of marketing and communication materials; HIPAA; and routine involvement in the management of hospital floor calls. The Staff Attorney coordinates his/her activities with the attorneys and risk managers in the General Counsel’s Office.
Knowledge/Skills

2. Assist Premier Health in meeting its strategic goals as established by the Board and System Leadership.
3. Assist Premier Health entities in all strategic initiatives.
4. Coordinate with department employees in accordance with Premier Health standards.
5. Provide advice and counsel to Premier Health companies concerning compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations.
6. Draft, review and advise on non-physician, transactional contracts, including but not limited to transfer agreements, purchasing, non-physician/commercial real estate.
7. Advise on medical/legal issues through routine participation in taking hospital floor calls during normal business hours.
8. Advise on HIPAA/privacy issues.
9. Routine management of subpoenas.
10. Provide advice and counsel to the Learning Institute via educational affiliations and associated agreements.
11. Provide legal review for marketing and communications materials
12. Provide comprehensive legal research and drafting to senior attorneys in the department.
13. Support senior attorneys in the department.
