General Summary / Responsibilities :
The Respiratory Care Team leader is an advanced standing licensed therapist who functions as a frontline member of the Respiratory Leadership Team.
He / she has proven interpersonal and problem solving skills which are employed daily to guide and support clinical staff, direct care and insure consistent workflow.
He / she serves as a role model and mentor to members of the health care team and may act on behalf of leadership to intervene with issues and concerns while escalating concerns to the Department's management staff.
Education
Minimum Level of Education Required : Associate degree
Additional requirements :
- Type of degree : Applied Science or the Equivalent
- Area of study or major : Respiratory Care
- Preferred educational qualifications : Bachelor's Degree
- Position specific testing requirement : N / A
Licensure / Certification / Registration
Valid Ohio Respiratory Care License, Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist Credential through NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care) BLS prior to hire, ACLS, PALS, NRP within 90 days.
Non-violent crisis prevention within 6 months of hire.
Experience
Minimum Level of Experience Required : 1 - 3 years of job-related experience
Prior job title or occupational experience : Registered Respiratory Therapist
Prior specific functional responsibilities : Charge Therapist or Shift supervisor. Demonstrated clinical excellence or superior performance in a variety of hospital clinical settings.
Preferred experience : Leadership experience
Knowledge / Skills
- Demonstrated ability to function and prioritize staff, directing them in a fast paced, high performance environment.
- Demonstrated superior performance in advanced and critical care settings with exceptional competency in ventilator and airway management.
- Ability to assess, modify, implement, and recommend respiratory care procedures by protocol or physician order.
- Must be able to complete all clinical and didactic yearly competencies for clinical areas assigned.
- Ability to analyze, prioritize and evaluate patient needs in an efficient manner.
- Ability to problem solve and escalate issues as appropriate.
- Must be capable of displaying effective and professional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in the education process of staff, physicians and / or patients related to policies, therapies, and clinical interventions.
- Successful completion of initial Intubation skills lab and applicable competencies must be completed within 12 months of hire.
