The Respiratory Therapist (RT II) functions in a skilled role that demonstrates professionalism and promotes excellence in the practice of respiratory care. The RT II is responsible for the respiratory assessment, therapeutic treatment, evaluation, testing, education, and communication for all patient populations served. The RT II will coordinate care with interdisciplinary team to promote excellent patient experience. The RT II is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Ohio Respiratory Care Laws, applicable regulatory standards, and institutional and system policies.
Education
Minimum Level of Education Required: Associate degree

- Area of study or major: Respiratory Care or NBRC approved registry requirements
- Preferred educational qualifications: Bachelor’s degree
- Position specific testing requirement: N/A
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Valid Ohio Respiratory Care License
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist Credential through NBRC (National Board for Respiratory Care)
- BLS
- ACLS
- NRP
- PALS certification required within 6 months of hire or based upon course availability

Knowledge/Skills
- Ability to analyze, prioritize and evaluate patient needs in an efficient and effective manner.
- Ability to assess, recommend, implement and modify respiratory care procedures by protocol or by physician order.
- Initiate, maintain, troubleshoot and wean patients from various respiratory equipment. Ex. Mechanical ventilation, BiPAP, medical gas therapy.
- Must be able to complete all clinical and didactic yearly competencies for clinical areas assigned.
- Must possess and display effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Possesses ability to educate staff, physicians and patients related disease process, treatment and/or medications.
