Overview

POSITION PURPOSE
The Director for Engagement and Support provides strategic and operational direction and leadership to the overall stewardship efforts of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The Director reports to the President of Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (PCUSA), A Corporation. The focus of this work is to interpret and foster the annual support for the ministries of the PCUSA.  The national offices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), based in Louisville KY, serve with midcouncils, congregations, worshipping communities, and partner organizations to carry forth the mission of Jesus Christ. Approximately 400 individuals, diverse in race, age, gender, sexual
orientation, faith, skills, and more come together as colleagues to work for a world where justice reigns, peace prevails, and God’s love extends to all people. This community comprises the staff of several national entities: the Office of the General Assembly, Presbyterian Investment and Loan  Corporations, the Presbyterian Mission Agency, the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, Presbyterian omen, and the Administrative Services Group.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Director for Engagement and Support will actively and eagerly gain initial and ongoing knowledge of the audiences, both internally and externally including employees, board members, agencies and entities of the PCUSA, mid-councils and congregations. The Director will have a strong personal presence and the ability to communicate the mission and message of the Presbyterian denomination to the current and new audiences.

Charitable gifts to support the overall goals and ministry of the PCUSA include cash, pledge and estate gifts through shared mission, special offerings, directed mission giving, extra opportunity giving by mid-councils, congregations, individuals, outside organizations and others by engaging them in the Presbyterian ministries. The work is conducted within the best practices and ethics of the fundraising profession.

Job Skills / Requirements

  1. Establish objectives for Engagement and Support which best serve the advancement of goals and programs and develop a plan of execution to carry out these objectives, including identifying benchmarks.
  2. Connect and engage Presbyterians with mission of church so that members are inspired to financially support the ministry areas through shared mission, directed giving and special offerings.
  3. Develop a comprehensive funds development plan that outlines strategies and addresses the resources and goals of PCUSA and that incorporates new development strategies and tactics.
  4. Collaborate and work closely with communicators to create and project a consistent brand identity.
  5. Reflect PCUSA’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in our workforce, and recruit and develop a highly-functioning team to serve the stewardship needs of the ministries of the PCUSA.
  6. Provide mentoring, coaching and evaluation to team members, and seek and engage in professional development opportunities.
  7. Seek opportunities and become a catalyst for organizational growth.
  8. Develop a budget and manage activities within the approved budget.
  9. Develop reports and communicate regularly to senior management.
  10. Speak and present publicly to engage the audience in the message.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
• Faith-based understanding of Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and/or familiarity with complex systems of faith with grounded experience in a religious setting.
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
• 7 years of experience in stewardship and/or fundraising, or related experience with an understanding of the biblical and theological grounding of stewardship.
• Supervision of a large staff.

Position Preferences
• Presbyterian background with deep familiarity with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) organization, its polity and connectional system and procedures.
• Master of Divinity or theological training.
• 10 years of experience in stewardship with a deep understanding of the biblical and theological grounding of stewardship.
• Certified Fundraising Executive or Certificate in Religious Fundraising.
• Supervision of a large staff, both in person and remotely based.

• Strong leader, “big picture” innovator and ambassador who operates in an evolving role as an adept communicator AND relationship builder, who is agile and effective at managing change and building culture.
• Visionary with the ability to communicate and work toward the organization’s vision.
