Job Summary

The Community Health Educator (CHE) is responsible for the development and provision of sexual health & wellness educational programs to youth and young adults in community settings. The CHE is the primary steward of a specific, multi-organization collaborative grant designed to raise youth awareness of important topics in the sexual health & wellness space. These partnering organizations include Pridelines, network LGBTQ non-profits, and Planned Parenthood of South, East, & North Florida (PPSENFL).

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to workplace values of respect, caring, support, effective communication, teamwork & collaboration, accountability, and responsibility; practice these values in relation to both internal and external actors.
  • Possesses a demonstrated understanding of the role that racial inequity plays in our society and its impact on healthcare systems and institutions, and the ability to relate to and care for diverse populations and communities.
  • Develop and implement high quality education programs related to sexual health & wellness for youth and young adults in a variety of settings.
  • Facilitate evidence-based programs (EBPs) and other education programs, as assigned.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and facilitate young adult sexual health & wellness educational programming for community healthcare practitioners and social service providers.
  • Network with other community-based organizations to cultivate awareness and use of PPSENFL services.
  • Provide resource consultation to community-based organizations regarding sexual health & wellness education.
  • Identify professional (public and private service providers), academic (public and private), and community audiences as markets for the aforementioned educational programming.
  • Cultivate an awareness of the diversity of Pridelines’ and PPSENFL’s client base, and provide programs and services that reflect competency around issues of diversity.
  • Respond to the educational needs of the South Florida Region by acting as an informational resource for agencies in the area regarding issues involving sexual health & wellness education.
  • Respond to community agencies in a timely manner and develop and maintain contacts in the community, especially local schools, in order to market programs.
  • In consultation with Pridelines’ Program Director, represent the Agency on community and statewide or regional committees that are aligned with, or further the mission of, Pridelines and PPSENFL.
  • Identify and develop partnerships with other agencies related to high-risk populations that enhance Pridelines and PPSENFL’s ability to satisfy the mission and strategies of the special grant.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by Pridelines.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain, utilize, and distribute Education Department materials and program tools. Ensure that all materials and training tools are kept in good condition.
  • Maintain and submit accurate and timely records and reports to direct supervisor.
  • Establish effective data collection and organization methods specific to the role (i.e., travel and mileage, timesheets, spending, etc.)

Team Participation:

  • Participate in team and staff meetings for the project and overall Pridelines organization
  • Contribute to planning and staffing other organization activities as needed

Other Essential Functions:

  • Assist with other duties as assigned by Pridelines.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork; understand the interaction between this position and others with whom the position works directly and indirectly.
  • Ensure that interactions incorporate Pridelines and PPSENFL’s values of integrity, partnership, customer focus, communication, and quality risk management.
  • Support the collaborative’s mission and all of the reproductive health services offered among its community health partners, including: family planning services, health screenings, testing and treatment of STIs and HIV, birth control methods, and abortion services.
  • Support efforts of the collaborative’s diversity-centric efforts to provide services that are culturally and linguistically competent; take the initiative to develop self-awareness and knowledge of diversity-related matters.
  • Work well with volunteers to achieve the Agency’s mission, alongside grant-specific deliverables.
  • Complete all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies, and standard practices in the areas of client service, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance programs, such as HIPAA (Health Information Portability & Accountability Act), OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Act), and CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Administration).
  • Perform other related duties that may be requested by the direct supervisor or Pridelines’ Executive and Leadership Team.

Experience & Education:

College degree or at least three years professional experience in formal education, community education (sexual health & wellness a plus), youth enrichment and development, non-profit service provision, social work. Experience working with community-based audiences and youth.

Cognitive Qualifications:

  • Communicate sexuality and sexual health & wellness topics effectively with ease in a professionalism in a public forum.
  • Demonstrate skills for effective delivery of education topics, including training design and group facilitation.
  • Communicate effectively using professional written and spoken language.
  • Utilize technology and resources related to education and training.
  • Maintain systems to facilitate workflow in accordance with continuous quality improvement.
  • Prioritize and organize workload and follow procedures with attention to detail.

Physical Qualifications:

  • Ability to clearly articulate and present information in public.
  • Ability to travel throughout the state and to work mornings, afternoons, evening, nights, and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to lift, set up, and remove all program and presentation materials and equipment.
