Cokenergy is an innovative waste heat recovery power generation facility owned and operated by Primary Energy and plays a crucial role in supplying energy to the Cleveland-Cliffs Indiana Harbor steelmaking facility in East Chicago, Indiana. Cokenergy's combined heat and power facility recovers waste heat from an adjacent non-recovery metallurgical coke production facility and uses this waste heat to produce industrial power-grade high pressure steam to generate electrical power and process steam to Cleveland-Cliffs steelmaking operations. Cokenergy is a first-of-a-kind facility that is also responsible for the pollution control for the flue gas generated during the coking process, underscoring our commitment to the environment and innovative energy solutions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Operations and Maintenance Manager, the Water Plant Manager supervises all facets of water operations and maintenance for our Cokenergy facility by effectively planning, organizing, and directing all phases of the water treatment process.
- Accountable for maintaining water quality specifications that are suitable for running a combined coke and energy plant generating electricity and steam that is used in the steel making process.
- Accountable for maintaining water plant production for make-up water to boiler system.
- Perform water sampling; test, analyze, report, monitor, adjust and maintain chemical levels in the different water systems of the plant (Boiler, Closed Loop, Cooling Tower Water, etc.).
- Maintain, monitor, and inspect chemical storage, chemical feed, and control equipment for all chemicals on site including the North Lake facility.
- Maintain all on-line analyzers and perform calibrations whenever needed (pH, Conductivity, Hardness, Chlorine, Silica and Sodium analyzers).
- Operate and maintain the water treatment for water filtration, cooling tower, condensate and feedwater systems, and water plant equipment.
- Utilize MS and web-based applications for periodic tracking, trending, and reporting key metrics for water treatment performance.
- Practice strong safety practices when handling or working with chemicals, installing and/or repairing instruments, or when locking out various components of the system for preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Be able to maintain close contact with chemical suppliers along with the Cleveland Cliffs facility to keep Cokenergy running efficiently and effectively.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Proficient in PC/Windows-based software including MS Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of Asset Management Software including:
- Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) tools such as Maximo.
- Real time and historical data management software such as Aveva eDNA and PI.
- Experience in Control Systems Operations:
- Comfortable operating a water purification plant via the control systems HMI (Human Machine Interface) utilizing Windows-based software to interact with the plant's control system, making set point adjustments and analyzing processes during operation.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
- Solid fundamental understanding of plant processes and equipment.
- Ability to conduct root cause analysis, troubleshoot and react accordingly.
- Understanding of environmental and safety regulations and compliance programs.
- Ability to plan, coordinate and direct varied and complex programs and tasks involved with the operation of the plant while being self-motivated to see the tasks through to completion.
- Must possess strong listening skills with the ability to process all viewpoints in group discussions while working in a team environment.
- Ability to build supportive and collaborative relationships.
- Seeks opportunities to enhance personal effectiveness in operational understanding.
- Serves as a proactive business partner with a focus on finding opportunities and solutions for issues in addition to seeking enhancements that assist in making the company more efficient.
REQUIREMENTS
- Associate Degree in Water Treatment with Math, Physical Science, Water Filtration and Chemistry courses preferred.
- 3 years of Power Industry, Water Plant and Water Filtration or Related Industrial experience.
- Must have access to a vehicle that can be driven to enter the worksite.
- On occasion, be available for on-call access which involves a remote capability depending on the severity of the issue.
