Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual to join our team as a Referral Coordinator. As a Referral Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating patient referrals within a medical office setting. This is a vital role in ensuring the smooth flow of patient care and maintaining accurate documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and process patient referrals from primary care physicians to specialists or other healthcare providers
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for referrals
- Communicate with patients, providers, and insurance companies to ensure timely and accurate referral processing
- Maintain referral records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Collaborate with medical coders to ensure proper coding of referrals
- Assist in scheduling appointments for patients with referred providers
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, addressing any questions or concerns related to their referrals
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of medical records related to referrals
- Stay updated on medical terminology, coding guidelines, and insurance requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree preferred
-Bilingual in English and Spanish
- Previous experience in a medical office setting, preferably as a Referral Coordinator or similar role
- Knowledge of managed care processes and insurance authorization requirements
- Familiarity with medical coding systems (ICD-10) and terminology
- Proficient in using office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
Hours will be distributed Monday through Friday in the afternoon, early evening, and Saturday.
