Responsibilities
SOCIAL SERVICES II: The substance use navigator (SUN) helps patients access evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders with a focus on low-threshold access to MAT (medication for addiction treatment) and harm-reduction. SUNs conduct outreach and identification of patients, conduct initial brief assessments, introduce patients to MAT programs and services, facilitate appointments at outpatient MAT clinics, serve as a resource and coach for their clients, and advocate for culture change in the hospital. They also assist with providing emotional support, crisis intervention and counseling for Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, provide case management & milieu management and complete psychosocial assessments. They assist to coordinate discharge planning. Complete necessary documentation and maintain clinical record for each client during his/her length of stay.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
Required qualifications:
1. In states without required licensure, then current registration with State Board is required within 3 months of hire. In states with required licensure, license required at time of hire and must be maintained.2. Nonjudgmental, energetic, positive, harm-reduction approach to assisting patients with substance use disorder (SUD).3. Understanding of SUD as a medical condition and the role of MAT in treatment and harm reduction. Adherence to an abstinence-based social model that is unsupportive of MAT is not aligned with the goals of this position.4. Behavioral Violence Prevention Training within 3 months of hire and maintain current.5. Minimum one (1) year hospital or Outpatient experience with emphasis in mental health care.6. Experience in working with a diverse population with a wide range of problems (i.e., death and dying, maternal and childcare, substance abuse, disability, chronic illness, etc.).
Preferred qualifications:
1. Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current preferred.
