Engineer 1 - Roll Pass

Job Description :

Provide support to both the Sales (pre-project) and Project Management (contract) teams by developing pass designs used to define / confirm equipment selections and process routes.

These pass designs allow for the successful production of finished hot rolled sections in proposed, new or existing rolling mills.

These rolling mill produce a wide variety of finished and semi-finished products such as angles, flats, rebar, wire rod, etc.

with applications in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

Job Responsibilities :

Perform calculations and / or modify calculation methods related to determining rolling loads associated with the hot rolling of long products.

This includes determining separating forces, torques, roll strengths, motor powers, pass spread, pass reduction, section speeds, roll speeds, etc.

These calculations will be used in determining equipment size for new mills and / or capability of existing equipment for new processes.

• Utilize FEA analysis tools to benchmark field results associated with rolling of different products. Furthermore, utilize these tools to both modify in house calculations as well as implement new pass designs for rolling in new or existing rolling mills.
• Provide internal / external technical support for the implementation of new pass designs in new or existing rolling mills.
• Collect and / or analyze field data using torque measurement equipment, load cells, pyrometers, laser speed gauges, etc.
• Create and / or revise drawings associated with pass designs such as rolling diagrams, pass details, mill rolls, etc.

Required Knowledge / Skills, Education, and Experience :

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial or metallurgical engineering.
• Preferred Knowledge / Skills, Education, and Experience :
• Knowledge and experience in CAD software technologies.
• Knowledge and experience in Finite Element Analysis related to rolling processes.
• Possess interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively and constructively in a varied environment.
• Must be able to function individually and as part of a team.
• Must show an eagerness to take on added responsibilities and leadership roles over time.
