Position Summary: This position is responsible for underwriting and monitoring a portfolio of small business loans to ensure that credits booked to the loan portfolio adhere to the Bank’s Credit Policy, are properly risk graded and are adequately reserved based on observable data.
Primary Duties
Maintain current knowledge of banking laws and regulations necessary to evaluate credit risk
Underwrite and decision Small Business purpose loans to include:
Assist retail loan officers with the input of Small Business Loan Applications
Prepare credit analysis and/or cash flow analysis for portfolio management loans and new commercial loans as needed
Preparation of Financial Spreadsheets
Global cash flow analysis
Assemble financial information as required to support small business loans submitted for new credit and renewal, such as personal credit bureau reports, business credit reports, current business status through the SCC and other documentation needed to assess borrowers’ ability to repay debt.
Written analysis of loan requests for the purpose of determining likelihood of unimpeded repayment and assessing credit risk
Notify the Loan Officer of the credit decision including the structure, terms and conditions of the loan
Risk grade assignment
Collaborate with the retail loan officer on the negotiation of the loan terms
If loan is approved, prepare a Loan Summary Sheet for recordation of approvals
If loan is declined, generates an adverse action notice from LaserPro and send to the borrower within required time frames
Provide guidance and coaching to the retail loan officers on small business lending
Monitor existing small business loan relationships to evaluate credit risk and to assess compliance with loan agreements and credit policy.
Complete Bank Reports, as requested.
Perform other such duties as assigned.
Maintain compliance with and adhere to all state and federal regulations and bank policies and procedures, including, but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, FACT ACT, Community Reinvestment Act, and EEO/AA/Fair Employment Practices
Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, finance, accounting, or related field preferred
Completion of Commercial Credit Course offered by Virginia Banker’s Association or similar institutions
Minimum of three years commercial credit analysis or commercial lending experience with small business emphasis
Experience in analyzing business financial statements, corporate tax forms, and partnership tax returns
Experience in analyzing personal financial statements and personal tax returns

Ability to organize and maintain accurate records
Ability to effectively identify problems and recommend appropriate solutions
Ability to effectively multi-task, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision
Ability to effectively communicate with bank personnel of all levels, bank clients, auditors, and outside vendors
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent computer skills relevant to Microsoft Office Suites (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook)
Physical Demands
In terms of an 8-hour workday, “occasional” equals 1% to 33%, “frequent” equals 34% to 66% and “continuous” equals 67% to 100%. However, some duties are performed monthly, annually or sporadically throughout the year and are essential functions.
