General Description:
The Senior Director of Clinical Informatics promotes the understanding, integration, and application of healthcare information technology in support of clinician/provider objectives, the organization's vision and strategic goals, and industry best practices. This position drives the optimal, efficient, and effective use of clinical information systems and technology as it relates to patient care, patient safety, user satisfaction, clinical productivity, and quality outcomes. They serve as a key constituent that bridges the gap between people, processes, clinical knowledge, and technology.

Job Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities of the Job:
  • Utilizes knowledge of Prism Health North Texas policies, procedures, and processes to provide support/guidance/feedback for process improvements, user acceptance testing, education, and implementation/upgrade support. Understands the clinical service line workflows and how they are impacted by technology.
  • Demonstrates understanding of current health care regulations and the impact on end user workflows and existing functionality through participation in continuing education activities in health informatics.
  • Collaborates with the EHR training team, IT, and clinical staff to achieve successful implementation of EHR processes and workflows. develop leader/clinical communication Assists with discovery and design sessions. Develops basic presentation and meeting facilitation skills. Displays a positive attitude in the face of ambiguity and change. Is an integrated in the success and implementation of the EMR process, workflows, in collaboration with the providers, nurses, and clinic directors.
  • Serves as a resource to end users for information systems and technology. Becomes a superuser in all data reporting and EHR applications.
  • Develops innovative analytics, insights, and solutions to evaluate medical cost drivers, cost and savings projections, network design/provider reimbursement, and the organization's value proposition to new and existing patients/customers.
  • Supports the development of business intelligence by integrating medical records, grant data, 340B pharmacy data, UDS data and financial information into meaningful datasets.
  • Works directly with the Chief Operating Officer to manage clinical aspects of data analytics and clinical decision support, both at a population and individual patient level
  • Work closely with all business units across the company.
  • Develops highly complex reports and dashboards which integrate information across departments, divisions, and groups. Communicates report insights to executive staff and provides recommendations on how to resolve organizational challenges and mitigate risk.
  • Supports and listens to user needs and cultivates relationships with providers and staff.
  • Educates staff and providers on best practice utilization of clinical systems, including consulting with leadership to improve processes and procedures.
  • Develops clinical decision support tools to help achieve internal continuous quality improvement initiatives as well as external quality reporting to UDS, MIPS, and/or ACOs. Understands how to collect and analyze data from both SQL and NoSQL databases using various statistical methods and tools such as R, Python, SAS, and/or SPSS.
  • Possesses an advanced understanding of data structures, database design, and basic IT infrastructure principles.
  • Familiar with the clinical development process and has the ability to identify areas for improvement in clinical workflows.
  • Collaborates with clinicians and health administrative leaders to build and provide analytics in areas including care variance analysis, population health management and predictive analytics.

  • Communicate report outcomes with executive staff and develop recommendations on how to implement issue resolutions.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all PHI/PII according to HIPAA rules and regulations and in line with IT security and privacy policies
  • Builds and strengthens the clinical informatics team by understanding and supporting strategic initiatives and priorities.
  • Effective conflict management skills, coaches and delivers constructive feedback.
  • Proactively approaches responsibilities, and balances multiple priorities and information needs across team and organization.

  • Maintains and formalizes our data internal and external policies/program.
  • Researches, evaluates, and makes recommendations on the need for new information systems or system enhancements with providers, patient care department end users, IT, vendors, and management team. This is done by evaluating existing operations and systems, keeping in mind potential volumes, data flow, constraints, documentation, and impacts to patient care end users.
  • Requests and reviews information from IT/vendors related to new systems or system enhancements with providers, patient care department end users, and management.
  • Ensures that clinical information systems are in compliance with FQHC, 340B, CMS, ONC and other regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day upkeep of various information systems and the interfaces between them. This includes, but is not limited to, remote access applications for physicians and physician staff as well as the patient portal.
  • Coordinates implementation of new and/or updated documentation practices, identifying required policy changes and designing new EHR documentation templates.
  • Utilizes research findings to improve patient outcomes using clinical information system applications.
  • Serves as Chairperson of the Data Governance Committee

Required Skills and Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Job Requirements:
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in health science, BSN.
  • Prefer MSN Nursing Informatics or MS Biomedical Informatics
  • Requires at least 2 years of advanced SQL programming experience.
  • Requires at least 2 years of hands-on experience with visualization software such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Requires at least 2 years of hands-on experience with a scripting language such as Python.
  • Requires at least 5 years of hands-on experience in creating customized EHR templates and clinical decision support tools.
  • Requires at least 5 years of prior operational and / or data analysis experience, experience in database structures, and standard query and reporting tools.
  • Proficient in MS Office – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Prefer at least 2 years of programming using FQHC, UDS Data, Grants, 340B requirements.
  • Prefer at least 2 years of experience with all major terminology systems and standards, including ICD-10, CPT, SNOMED, LOINC, and FHIR
  • Prefer at least 3 years of experience in an ambulatory health care setting.
  • Prefer at least 1 year of experience working with NCQA HEDIS quality measures.
  • Requires at least 1 year of experience with NCQA Health Plan Rating, and or CMS Medicare.
  • Prefer experience with AthenaOne EHR.
