What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Estimator position at Private P&M?
Job Summary: The Cost Estimator works with both customers and potential customers to facilitate the sales process and request, secure and prepare formal quotations. This position directly manages the quotation phase with a goal of earning new business. The Cost Estimator communicates with new and existing customers, and represents PMT in responses to sales-related inquiries.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: NOTE: Plastic Molding Technology, LLC. unilaterally may change the requirements of this job description at any time. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. These include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Receives RFQs from exising and potential customers via e-mail, portals, fax, telephone, etc.
- Maintains customer records using automated systems including Salesforce and IQMS
- Identifies prospective customers through business directories, following leads from existing clients, participating in organizations and/or attending trade shows and conferences
- Develops sales estimates, including the collection of all actual and estimated costs for a sales opportunity
- Acts as the first customer interface for all commercial communications
- Follows up directly with the customer during the entire sales cycle
- Makes recommendations on pricing and margins based upon knowledge of the potential sales account
- Develops relationships with customers to promote PMT, and leverages that relationship to aid in award wins
- Prepares Cost Breakdown sheets in customer-requested format
- Logs RFQs, updates Sales Opportunity reports and maintains Key Performance Indicators
- Conducts feasibility reviews with engineering, production and quality departments to ensure quoting parameters, raw materials and customer requirements are met
- Requests raw material quotes from suppliers and meets with suppliers to review quotes
- Prepares electronic bids via customer portals
- Schedules and coordinates meetings with existing/potential customers
- Assists Customer Service and Accounting departments with pricing discrepancies
- Reviews initial Purchase Orders with Customer Service to ensure accuracy of pricing and terms
- Notifies departments of newly awarded business
- Generates Electronic Project Folders, tooling summaries and BOM checklists
- Completes customer capacity spreadsheets and any other forms required by customer
- Performs other duties as assigned

- High School Diploma required; Associates Degree in Business preferred
- 3-5 years’ minimum experience as a full-charge sales specialist or equivalent job experience

- Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
- Able to learn new software and computer-based systems

Salary: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
