PRODUCT MANAGER
Reports to: Vice President – Purchasing and R&D
FLSA Status: Exempt
PURPOSE: The primary role of the Product Manager is to combine both product planning and marketing to manage the entire life cycle of our products. They will manage and oversee product offering efforts for the entire company while embracing an ‘ownership thinking’ approach to doing business. They’re responsible for gathering customer requirements, defining their vision, and owning the execution of product launches. This individual will work closely with Purchasing, Product Development, Marketing, Quality, Sales, and Customer Success to manage our product catalog.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gain a deep understanding of customer experience, identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas that grow market share, improve customer experience and drive growth
- Provide in-depth market, industry and competitive analysis and positioning. Research market/consumers
- Constantly research our product offering and pricing to ensure we are competitive in the market
- Create buy-in for the product vision both internally and with key external partners
- Conduct product line rationalization to optimize product offering and performance
- Develop and recommend retail pricing to help our retailers operate successful, profitable locations
- Represent the company by visiting customers to solicit feedback on company products and services
- Lead the Product Committee, serve on the Franchise Advisory council, own the Product Launch initiative
- Communicate product positions and advantages in the marketplace. Provide communication vehicles for programs and products
- Assist in the promotional planning process by providing recommended products based on margins, market status, marketing research, and other factors.
- Work closely with Product Development on new products, product improvements, and product discontinuation
- Assist the Retail Training Team in maintaining operations manuals
- Aid in analysis of product pricing to ensure company Gross Margin goals are met or exceeded
- Collaborate with Customer Success on any price or product change notification to our customers
- Collaborate with Customer Success on any new product forms sent to our customers
- Manage multiple product information tools for the Sales and Customer Success teams to utilize in the field.
- Maintain system requirements for all new item setups in multiple systems
- Support operational objectives through improved products and vendor resources
- Take ownership of product specification software tools and ensure they are accessible and accurate
- Establish pre-requisites for new product development and success metrics for all products
- Focus on achieving company goals, embracing the company’s mission and vision statement and live according to our core values
- All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field
- At least 2 years of experience working in food service or food distribution field
- Organization of business materials; internal, customer, and project files
- Persistent in nature; follow-up is a must
- Excellent analytical skills; possess thinking-outside-the-box capabilities
- Great verbal and written communication skills
- Sales oriented: always focused on customer needs first
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage tight deadlines
- Have a sense of urgency
- Strong work ethic, always making the company and the customer a priority
- Ability to effectively communicate with all types of people from owners to hourly employees for business results
- Excellent leadership skills

- Ability to travel overnight as required
- Ability to manage time and schedule effectively and timely
- Experience in CRM and ERP inventory module experience a plus
- Technological skill sets to include use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other software as required
