Role Summary
The Benefits Manager plays a critical role in overseeing a team of benefit professionals, ensuring the effective management and deliver of employee benefit programs, monitoring the various plans and policies to ensure compliance with legal requirements and company objectives. They will also stay informed of industry changes and new developments to help the business keep up with best practice standards. This position requires a strong background in benefits management, account management, and exceptional leadership skills.
Your Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Development
- Provide strong people leadership to a small team of benefits professionals to ensure the effective management and delivery of benefit plans.
- Coach, train, and develop team members to foster a collaborative environment, and promote continuous growth and improvement.
- Oversee all benefit related projects and handle escalated employee benefit issues from clients, vendors, employees, and beneficiaries in a quick, equitable and courteous manner.
Benefit Management & Administration
- Closely partner with Benefit Operations Director to provide strategic and impactful insights into benefits design and structure including but not limited to, 125 cafeteria plans, COBRA, and flexible spending accounts (FSA/HSA).
- Act as a point of escalation for benefit-related issues, working closely with team members to resolve any disputes or concerns in a timely manner for all parties involved.
- Assist in customer service inquiries related to benefits and provide accurate and timely responses.
- Oversee annual benefit open enrollment process and ensure completion in an accurate and timely manner.
- Assist in the development and delivery of educational materials, presentations, and communication strategies to enhance employee understanding of benefit offerings and encourage participation.
- Document trends and proactively recommend process and/or system improvements.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as HR, Finance, and Payroll to ensure seamless integration and processing of benefit administration tasks.
Compliance
- Conduct regular audits and quality checks to ensure data accuracy and integrity within the HRIS system.
- Ensure plans meet current and future requirements of the Affordable Care Act regulations and legislations, and ensure statutory compliance, including but not limited to ACA, FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, and HIPAA legislation.
Additional Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, including analyzing audit reports and ensuring integrity of the HRIS and other systems.
- Serves as the department’s internal resource for all regulatory and compliance-related matters.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in benefits management.

This Role is a Good Fit if You
- Have a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field
- Have 5 years of benefit management experience, including COBRA, flexible spending plans and 125 cafeteria plans, with at least 3 years in a leadership position
- Have 3 years of PEO and account management experience
- Are have familiarity with HRIS systems, preferably UKG, and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Possess strong leadership abilities with a track record of effectively managing and developing teams
- Possess a customer-centric mindset
- CEBS, SHRM certification is a plus
